I applied to McKinsey (Doha and Abu Dhabi offices) 2 weeks ago for a BA position and still haven't received the Solve link. The Doha office is currently hiring for a BA position, but I applied to the Abu Dhabi office based on lateral hiring. Does this mean rejection, or what could be the reason? What is the normal timing to receive a solve link? Whom can I contact at McKinsey for this issue?
Delayed time to receive Mckinsey Solve
Two weeks without a Solve invite does not mean rejection. Timing can vary by office, role, and when the recruiting team reviews applications.
Solve usually comes after the initial CV screen, not necessarily straight after applying. I would wait until the 3-week mark, then send one polite email to the recruiter or contact in your application confirmation asking for an update.
Do not contact Solve support yet, as that is only for technical issues after you receive the link. In the meantime, start preparing, as the completion deadline can be short once the invite arrives.
Hi there,
I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:
- First of all, contrary to what other coaches have said, there are no silent rejections in consulting, at least not with the major firms.
- Moreover, your setup adds some waiting time by design: you applied as a lateral candidate, and experienced-hire applications usually go through a manual screening first before anyone triggers the McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment e-mail.
- Lastly, I would advise you to write a short and polite status request to the recruiter. That is the only way to know for certain, since nobody outside of McKinsey can see your application status.
If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
Best,
Hagen
Hi there,
Two weeks without a Solve invitation does not automatically mean rejection. You might still get the invite later, or you might not get it because the application was screened out. Nobody here can tell you which one has happened.
At this point, reach out to the recruiter or McKinsey application support team and ask them to confirm your application status. Do not chase multiple people or read too much into the delay.
Most importantly, do not sit around waiting for McKinsey. Keep networking with and applying to other firms. Hope for the best, but always plan for the worst.

Hi,
I've applied for the Associate position on Aug13 (Thu) and received the invite on Aug 17 (Mon).
Best of luck!
Which office did you apply for?
Two weeks without a Solve invitation does not necessarily mean rejection. Timing can vary by office and hiring track, and lateral hiring can follow a different process from the standard BA recruitment cycle.
I’d give it a little more time, then send a short email to the recruiter or recruiting contact listed in your application portal asking for an update. I wouldn’t read too much into the delay yet.
Best, Alessa :)
