Delay in finals

Hi, it has been 2 months since my first round McKinsey was conducted. I received a call from my interviewer confirming that I passed Round 1. However, I did not receive a written confirmation. I emailed my recruiters politely asking them about the finals schedule. They promptly responded that finals depend on partner availability and that I should wait patiently. I don't have any issues waiting. However, should I request for a written confirmation at least? A case partner applying for another region received a written confirmation, so I thought I should ask for one myself.

Hi there,

You don’t need to worry about not receiving written confirmation—recruiting processes can differ slightly by region and office. If your interviewer already told you that you passed Round 1 and the recruiter confirmed finals are pending partner availability, that is effectively your confirmation.

Asking again specifically for a written confirmation won’t add much value and could come across as pushy. Instead, the best approach is to politely stay in touch every few weeks if you haven’t heard back, just to signal continued interest and maintain visibility.

In short: trust what you’ve been told, be patient, and focus on keeping your interview skills sharp for when finals are scheduled.

Best,
Evelina

Last month, I requested that if a slot became available, my interviews be scheduled in it, as I was managing relocation and logistical (internet) issues. The team noted this request at the time. I thought I was being proactive telling them concern, but now, I am stressed if it could have created the impression that I was less interested in the opportunity? Since it has been a month, would it be appropriate for me to send a follow-up email to reconnect and let them know that all logistical issues have been resolved?

No, not an issue in my opinion.

A written confirmation doesn't change anything.

+ the summer holidays have just ended, so partners are likely returning from holidays etc. which will have impacted their availability

Hi there,

in my opinion, you don’t need the written confirmation to be “safe.” Your focus should be on staying prepared for finals so that when the date comes, you are ready to perform.

A written confirmation is nice to have, but it is not standard in every office or region. Some recruiters send it automatically, others confirm verbally and proceed directly to scheduling. The fact that your interviewer already told you that you passed Round 1, and the recruiter confirmed you are simply waiting on partner availability, is sufficient assurance.

If you want peace of mind, you can politely ask your recruiter whether a formal confirmation can be shared, but I would not push too hard.

Best of luck!

Hey there :)

You don’t need to worry about the lack of a written confirmation. If your interviewer already told you that you passed and HR confirmed the delay is only due to partner availability, that’s sufficient. A written confirmation won’t change your status or accelerate scheduling. Processes can vary a lot between regions, so it’s normal that your friend received a different format of update. Best is to stay patient and only follow up if the delay becomes excessive.

best,
Alessa :)

1. you don't need a written confirmation (does that change anything?)

2. The reply you received is already a confirmation.
