Hi there,

The question is loaded with the unstated assumption of a 2 year ban period. If you have insider information that confirms that duration, the answer is plainly a „Yes“.

If not, it is:

1. Yes.

2. Ban period duration is not always 2 years but in general 12-24 months depending on firm and office.

3. Never hurts to differentiate what is known from what is assumed - good Consulting habit ?

Best,

Gero

The ban is typically 1y. I suggest you check directly with your target office.

And yes, being rejected at any stage means that you can't apply for the ban period.

Lastly, the ban is not a fixed, mathematical 12month (or 24 month period) - they rather think about it as a period that is long enough for you to improve your value prop to make it worth interviewing you again.

So if you feel like you've made significant improvements in your profile in the last few months, it's worth reaching out to them and discussing the possibility of applying earlier.

Best,

Cristian

Hi there,

Q: Does not passing the CV, CL screening count as a ban for not applying for 2 years?

If you are rejected at the CV stage, they usually recommend waiting a certain period of time before applying again. However, this is not necessarily 2 years – for some firms, the recommended period is 12-18 months.

Good luck!

Not for McKinsey.

You can apply to other offices but there should be a clear link with that location (e.g., hometown, studied there, etc.).

Alberto

Hi there,

a 12-18 month ban is typically triggered the moment you get rejected from the recruiting process. This can happen after any of the interview rounds but also right after the CV screening of course.

I have not heard of a 2-year ban period - that seems rather long.
