Hello,

I am applying to several consulting companies for experienced hire roles. Should I include the following on my CV?

IT Skills - I am pretty good at using some programming packages beyond the basic MS Excel etc
.
Interests - Do they want to know that I am into going to the theatre, doing DIY etc.?

Languages - Recruiters do love multilingual speakers, but I am only fluent in English. However, I can speak another language, but I cannot read or write in it. There are two other languages that I can understand but cannot converse in.

Contact details - Are my email and phone number ok, or do I need to include my address?

High School grades - I followed the UK system; at the moment, I only include my A-Level grades.

I have not included things like date of birth, nationality/passports. I assume we do not include them for equal opportunities etc.

Should I also include a key skills selection? For example, say I can build AI models to predict sales or perform economic analysis etc. Or some techniques learnt at university, like mathematical modelling etc.?

If you can say “proficient” for a few “strong” ones (like Python, R, etc.)

Your call here (moreso depends on your other resume). If so, keep to 1 line.

Include. Say Conversational for the 1st. Say Beginner in the second 2

Depends on country/personal preference

If you have a nationality/citizenship/visa that allows you to work in that country, include it!

No. Not in a setence structure. Incorporate into your experience bullet points OR include in the IT Skills section (as nouns, not sentences)

Let me quickly go through your questions:

  • IT Skills: You have them, state them. They may be handy in some occasions, no reason to hide them. 
  • Interests: this is helpful to break the ice in an interview, and set you apart as a person, if there's something more unique about you. If there isn't don't worry. Just make sure you are a regular “human being” and have interests outside work. Gambling and any sort of additions have no place in this part, just to be clear.
  • Languages: if you can have a business meeting with that language, mention it; if you can't, then skip it. In some instances the interviewer may start speaking to you in the said language, and you'll leave a negative impression.
  • Address: While I don't see a need for the address, it can be relevant to know where you are based, depending on the situation. But often you don't need the address for this.
  • High School Grades: usually no one cares about high-school grades. I would even find it akward to have them there. Can't say if in the UK this is different.
  • Date of birth, nationality/passports. You can skip the first. The others only if there's an advantage. This would depend on the office.
  • Key skills: you are referring to IT skills. You can mention that you can work with XYZ technology (or work with AI), but refrain from giving examples of things you could do. You can mention things you have done. But notice that a strategy consulting firm is not going to hire you because you can do a AI based sales forecast model. Be “light” on this topic. If you go into too much detail, it will raise the flag that you want a technical job and not the one you are applying to (and that you don't understand its requirements). Pass on the techniques learnt at university.

  • IT Skills: If you are properly good, then no harm in writing. Some of the IT tools relevant to consulting (sometimes) are Tableau, Alteryx, Power BI, R, etc. No additional value in writing stuff like Python.
  • Interests: If you have dedicated interests outside of work, then you should very much talk about them. Instead of pitching it as a random hobby, try to give more color around level in intensive involvement in the interests.
  • Languages: You can mention the level of expertise for the other languages.
  • Contact details: Email, phone, and preferably LinkedIn public profile URL
  • High School grades: If you are more than 3-4 years of experience then no need to mention high-school grades
  • Equal opportunities: Your take is correct on this, except for work-eligibility - which you should include generally.
  • Key skills: Ideally, try to include these within the specific projects in your CV. If there is no place, then try to create a segment in your interests section. But try to stay somewhat relevant to the needs of the job as well
