Consulting Firms- Singapore

Hi!

Are there any consulting firms in Singapore that are open to sponsoring a visa for an UK graduate with an MBBS degree and less than one year of consulting experience?

I have done summer internships in 2 different consulting companies and I wonder if getting a job in Singapore straight out of university as an international student would be impossible or just very very difficult.

Thank you!

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, please keep in mind that visa sponsorship likely does not depend on where you studied or how much work experience you have.
  • Moreover, to know for certain, I would strongly advise you to reach out to the recruiting departments of your target consulting firms and inquire about visa sponsorship. It's unlikely that many firms will be willing to sponsor you, especially since you don't seem to have strong ties to the UK, at least based on what you shared with us.
  • Lastly, considering what you shared with us, I wonder what your motivation is to work in the UK as opposed to Singapore or other parts of Asia. What is your reason for this?

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

Formally, yes.

Practically, it's rather hard.

The important thing they'll want to understand is - why Singapore? Did you study there? Did you work there? Do you have any personal reasons for being there?

Otherwise, your application might seem random to them and they might reject it at the screening phase.

That aside, they do have the ability to support visa applications.

Best,
Cristian

Hi, I am a Singaporean national and I am sorry to inform you that the Singaporean labor market is extremely protectionist. Their criteria for sponsoring visas is very strict and there are often limits on how many non-Singaporeans firms can hire. In a field such as consulting, the skills required are not nearly specialized enough to justify firms sponsoring foreigners (unless you possess VERY niche knowledge). Therefore, I would say your chances are slim to none. You may consider attending an MBA program at a top school in Singapore such as INSEAD to improve your chances, but even then, it will be difficult.

Please feel free to reach out directly if you'd like to know more about living and working in Singapore, or else breaking into other markets as a foreigner (e.g. the US or Switzerland, as I have experience in both).

All the best!

Hi,

If you go through the normal application route it is unlikely. However, if you try to find a mentor that is a senior person at these firms and can vouch for you, that could work.

If you would like to brainstorm how this can be done, feel free to chat

Hey there,

I second what most of the other coaches have said. I myself tried to transfer to the Singapore office but it was impossible…and I’m already an MBB consultant. Sorry if this sounds like pouring cold water over the idea, but more context below:

To add more nuance, Singaporean companies have a quota for non-locals, so many employers save their Employment pass (EP) for critical talent, and for large consulting firms this tends to be for senior positions eg Partners.

If you are open to smaller boutique firms, there will likely be more opportunities, but you will need to get in touch individually and ask if they sponsors EPs for foreign talent

It’s possible, but it won’t be easy. You’ll need to craft a compelling narrative for ‘why Singapore’ and why they should hire you rather than the highly qualified local talent.

It would help to get a referral from a senior consultant, if you’re able to network your way into receiving one.

Hi,

Singaporean here, worked in T2 and MBB.

It's basically impossible. There are EP (employment pass) guidelines that the Ministry of Manpower dictates, and firms are very careful to follow these.

To be based in the Singapore office out of college, you either need to be citizen or PR. Especially for Singapore, there will be no shortage of other local candidates (whether they studied locally or abroad) to fill up the hiring requirements.

If you want to stay in SEA, you could consider the other emerging markets, these offices are typically more open - e.g. HCM, BKK.

Hey :)

It’s definitely not impossible, but yes, getting a consulting role in Singapore as a fresh grad with limited experience can be very competitive. That said, MBB and a few Tier 2 firms (like Oliver Wyman, Strategy&, or LEK) do sponsor visas for strong international candidates, especially if you bring a unique background like MBBS + consulting internships.

The key will be a sharp application story, early networking with consultants in the Singapore offices, and applying directly for graduate/entry-level roles. Start reaching out now, it can really help your chances.

Happy to help review your story or outreach approach!

best,
Alessa :)

It's going to be tough for McKinsey

Try tier 2's or big four. these are typically more willing to sponsor pre-em positions
