Consulting application timelines - office specific information

Hi all,

I'm an MBA grad (IESEG, Paris) targeting MBB consulting roles, specifically at the London, Brussels, Mumbai, Bangalore, or Gurugram offices. My program doesn't offer office-specific recruiting guidance, so I'm trying to find:
(1) typical application/interview timelines for these offices,
(2) whether they recruit MBAs on a fixed cycle or rolling basis,
(3) whether they hire at any specific time of the year, and
(4) any visa/work-authorization considerations for non-local candidates.

Any leads — official sources, alumni contacts, or past threads — would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Your European and Indian targets play by totally different rules, so treat them as two separate searches.

London and Brussels run a proper MBA cycle. Applications usually close September to November, interviews through winter. It's fairly fixed, so the autumn window is the one you can't miss.

Mumbai, Bangalore, and Gurugram are much looser. More rolling and lateral hiring plus campus cycles at the top Indian schools. Roles pop up when teams need people, so keep an eye on the careers page and apply when they post.

The visa piece is the one to be honest about. London needs sponsorship, and the bar went up this year. Brussels needs EU work authorization. The India offices hire mostly locally, so without Indian work rights you'll struggle there. Sort which offices you can actually work in before spending energy on them.

The real unlock for all of them is alumni. Office-specific timing lives with the people inside, not any public page. Find folks in each office on LinkedIn and just ask.

Hi there,

Unfortunately, there is no centralised information base for all of this. And there can't really be since it changes quite often and differs from office to office and firm to firm.

My recommendation is to start researching the offices one by one. Reach out to the recruiter and discuss the criteria with them.

Hi, both answers above cover the process well. One thing I would add: with five offices across three very different geographies, the most important decision is where to focus first rather than applying broadly.

London is one of the most competitive MBB offices globally, and without a target school behind you, breaking in cold is very difficult unless your previous experience is exceptional. If you have strong connections to India, I would actually start there: the three offices are largely interchangeable as an entry point, and if you want to move to Europe down the line, an internal transfer is significantly easier than an external application, and the firm takes care of all visa aspects.

Hope it helps. Feel free to drop me a message if anything is unclear and good luck!

Hi Federico! Yes, I assumed that starting with India might be a better option (I am Indian, so no visa requirements, etc.) I was considering appying simultaneously to the London office, since the applications allow you to pick 3 offices. Would you recommend doing this?

Hi there,

To answer your questions:

Recruiting cycles vary by office. Since I assume you have already graduated from your MBA, you are likely outside the formal MBA recruiting cycle. In that situation, recruitment is conducted on a rolling basis across most offices, with no strict application timeline. However, the number of openings is much lower than during structured MBA recruiting periods.

If you have post-MBA professional experience, you may qualify as an experienced hire, which opens up additional opportunities and follows a different recruitment process.

Networking becomes particularly important for candidates from non-target schools. IESEG is not a core recruiting school for most MBB offices. I would therefore strongly recommend reaching out directly to consultants, and alumni in your target locations to understand current hiring needs and increase your visibility.

Visa sponsorship is highly office-dependent. London has historically sponsored strong international candidates, although sponsorship policies and hiring appetite can vary with market conditions. Brussels places greater emphasis on language capabilities, particularly French and/or Dutch.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck,

Franco

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

  • First of all, unfortunately, since recruiting practices change from country to country, firm to firm, and sometimes even from office to office, no one can seriously answer your question across such a wide range of countries and regions. You need to put in the work yourself, research, and potentially also reach out to the recruiting departments directly.
  • Moreover, please keep in mind that you need a strong rationale for applying to each of the offices, since you would get rejected immediately without.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

I wouldn’t overcomplicate this.

  1. Application timelines: Apply whenever roles are open. Hiring demand changes regularly, so don’t wait for the “perfect” window. If you can, get a referral and speak to HR.
  2. MBA hiring: Most firms recruit MBAs throughout the year. Don’t let timing stop you from applying—if they’re interested, they’ll take you through the process.
  3. Time of year: Opportunities come up all year. Keep an eye on vacancies and be ready when they do.
  4. Visas: This varies by office, so check with the recruiter. Large consulting firms regularly hire internationally where there is a business need.

My biggest piece of advice: don’t spend too much time trying to predict the recruitment cycle. Focus on having a strong application and being interview-ready.

Keep it simple. Focus on what you can control.
