Hi Silvia :)

from my experience the language usually follows the office working language. In most Italian offices, interviews for Consultant are often conducted in English, but this can vary. The safest and best step is to directly ask HR in advance whether the video and written responses can be done in Italian. That shows professionalism, not weakness.

If you feel confident in your skills, go confidently into the interview process and clarify expectations upfront. It is much better to align early than to worry during the test.

If you want, I can also share a few quick tips to feel more comfortable answering in English under time pressure.

best,
Alessa :)

Silvia,

I would check this directly with the recruiter.

My assumption would be that they expect the answer to be in the same language that casey is in. But it's best not to guess and just ask.

Best,

Cristian

Ciao Silvia,

For BCG in Italy, most consultant roles still require strong working English because many projects are international and internal communication is often in English. Even if some client work is in Italian, the recruiting process may be fully or partially in English.

Casey Bot is typically standardized, and the language is usually predefined by the office. In most cases, you are expected to respond in the same language as the test prompt. You normally cannot switch freely.

What I would suggest:

  1. Check the original job posting. It usually specifies required language levels.
  2. If it is unclear, email recruiting immediately and ask politely in which language the assessment should be completed.
  3. If it is in English, focus on clarity over sophistication. Simple, structured sentences beat complex vocabulary.

BCG is not testing literary English. They are testing structured thinking and communication. If your ideas are clear and logical, slightly imperfect English will not disqualify you.

I would check directly with your recruiter before the test. They can confirm what language options are available for the Italian office.

That said, here is what I generally see. For BCG Italy, the Casey assessment is often available in the local language since the client work there is mostly in Italian. But this can vary depending on the role level and office preferences.

What I would do

Email your recruiter today and ask directly. Something like "I wanted to confirm whether the Casey assessment can be completed in Italian, or if it needs to be in English." Simple question, they will give you a clear answer.

Don't assume either way. Better to know for sure than to start the test and realise you guessed wrong.

If it has to be in English

Don't panic. The Casey bot is not testing your fluency. It is testing your thinking. Clear, structured responses matter more than perfect grammar. Keep your answers simple and direct. Short sentences are fine. Focus on showing your logic, not impressive vocabulary.

If your English is good enough to understand the case and explain your reasoning step by step, you can do this. The video portion is short and they know not everyone is a native speaker.

One more thing

Whatever language you use, practice before the test. Do a few case run-throughs out loud so you are comfortable structuring your thoughts quickly. That matters more than which language you answer in.
