Casebooks for manufacturing, especially OEE

I'm looking for casebooks for manufacturing, especially for OEE.

(OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) is the gold standard for measuring manufacturing productivity. Simply put – it identifies the percentage of manufacturing time that is truly productive. An OEE score of 100% means you are manufacturing only Good Parts, as fast as possible, with no Stop Time.)

According to my former 1st round interview experience, which was two OEE cases, and some manufacturing consulting position requests posted on Linkedin, I think casebooks for manufacturing, especially for OEE would be pretty helpful for someone who is interested in this domain.

Anyone would like to provide some related casebook resources?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi there,

This seems very specific, so I'm not sure you will get a lot of help from us here.

Are you certain that all your interviews will be from this topic? Did HR tell you that? Just make sure that you are not blindsided in your final interview with topics that are completely unrelated. Candidate usually train across topics.

Best of luck!

Ex-McKinsey Interviewer | Deep McKinsey expertise with engaging prep that turns nerves into confidence and into offers

Hi there,

There aren't any specific case books on the matter and for a good reason. Interviews are rarely exclusively focused on niche topics, such as OEE.

When I prepared for my McKinsey Operations interviews, I screened the typical MBA case books for various ops related cases but also covered all the remaining ground. And sure enough, I only had one ops case and the rest was all over the place. Good thing I was prepared for everything!

Would advise you to do the same, unless you get an unambiguous steer from HR to focus on niche topics.

Best of luck,

Moritz

Hi there,

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • Unfortunately, there are not any specific case books on OEE as it is a niche topic within the manufacturing industry. However, for general operations case studies, scanning through casebooks for operations case studies can be helpful.
  • It is important to also consider studying non-operations case studies as well, as interviews are rarely exclusively focused on one specific topic. Additionally, specific positions may require different skill sets, so make sure to consider that in your preparation as well.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

I don't think strategy consulting firms use those cases.

Not saying those materials don't exist, but this place is probably not going to be very helpful in finding that kind of material.

Sorry, what does OEE stand for? I know OE (operational efficiency), but what is the extra E for?
