Case study interview - Deloitte Middle East

Hello all,

After an HR interview, and a technical interview, I have been called up for a Case Study interview for a Finance transformation (EPM) consultant role.

I don't know exactly if I should be expecting an EPM-related case study or something else (general project management case, market-sizing etc..).

Any information can be helpful, thank you very much!

Hi there,

Congrats on making it to the case study round — that’s a great sign!

For a Finance Transformation (EPM) consultant role at Deloitte Middle East, you can expect the case study to be more operational and implementation-focused rather than a traditional market-sizing or profitability case like in generalist strategy roles.

Here’s what they might test and how to prepare:

1. Case Type – Likely Focus Areas

  • EPM-specific scenarios: You may be given a client situation where they need to implement or improve enterprise performance management systems (e.g. budgeting, forecasting, financial consolidation).
  • Finance process transformation: Expect topics like process inefficiencies, reporting challenges, KPI alignment, or integrating systems like Oracle or SAP.
  • Stakeholder management and change: How you would handle senior finance stakeholders, align business requirements with tech, or drive adoption.

2. Less Likely but Possible

  • Some basic market-sizing or structured problem-solving may still appear to test your logic and communication, but it would be secondary to domain relevance.

3. How to Prepare

  • Brush up on your understanding of EPM tools and typical finance transformation project phases (diagnose, design, implement, test, roll out).
  • Think through how you’d structure a solution if a client asked, “How can we improve our forecasting process?”
  • Be ready to walk through stakeholder engagement, process redesign, and technology enablers logically.
  • Practice explaining technical or process-heavy content clearly and simply — communication is key.

4. Format
Some Deloitte offices in the region present this as a written case, others as interactive problem-solving with the interviewer. Either way, structure your answers clearly (problem → approach → solution → risks/trade-offs).

Best of luck — and feel free to reach out if you'd like help with a practice case or mock session!

Best,

Evelina

For a Finance Transformation (EPM) Consultant case, you're most likely to get:

  1. EPM-related case (e.g., improving budgeting/forecasting for a client)
  2. Project management case (e.g., rolling out a consolidation tool across regions)
  3. Possible as well: general case (light structuring or ROI logic)

Prep tips:

  • Review EPM processes (budgeting, planning, reporting)
  • Think about implementation steps, stakeholder mgmt, common risks
  • Practice structuring your answers clearly

Check in with the recruiter ASAP. They're the only ones who can tell you for sure what to expect, and it's perfectly fine and expected that you should ask.

Best,

hello!

For Deloitte Middle East, especially in EPM, the case will likely be semi-technical,  expect a mix of structured thinking and finance process knowledge (like budgeting, forecasting, reporting flows). They may wrap it in a broader business problem (e.g. a company struggling with inefficient planning cycles) but test how you'd approach solving it. Still, prep basic case types too (market sizing, profitability, operations), just in case. And definitely brush up on common EPM tools and transformation steps, that context will help you stand out.

best,
Alessa :)
