Career Events

Hello everyone,

I am curious. I am attending a career event which include MBB firms. I would love to know more on how can I stand out, or some of the key things that I should do to ensure I get an interview at least.

Thank you!

Hello!

In career events to which I used to work with McK, it used to be a BA accompanying Recruiting people.

They would collect CVs, which mostly is the only way to get “filtered” in these events. However, never harms to engage in conversation with them. to learn more about them and introduce yourself and your interest in the firms.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hi there,

Is this an in-person or virtual event?

The main advice is to have “balance”. Speak when it makes sense for you to speak, but don't dominate the discussion either.

Be prepared with your elevator pitch, why consulting, and why the company, and come with a few good/strong questions to help you stand out.

Good luck!

Thank you! It will be physical, and in terms of questions about what should it be since i am new to consulting

Would suggest to actively engage & contribute with views & experiences, but don't over-do it.

What really matters to get an interview is to have a strong CV. While a positive impression from the workshop can add the missing 2-3% to get invited for a borderline candidate, it typically does not move the needle by much.

Hi there,

  • Bring your strong CV along for the recruiter (well structured, focus on achievements, etc.)
  • Be present, speak confidently, and make sure you participate (in the workshop)
  • Speak to the recruiter and inform yourself about the next steps

Good luck! :)

My only advice is to have a conversation. Show interest about what they do and their projects. If you can get to discuss a real project (and have a conversation around it) that would be great.

If a good conversation happens, make sure you get their email or recall their name - so you can send them a thank you note (through email or linkedin) and if appropriate, continue the conversation (i.e. you can ask them if they would be willing to give an opinion on your CV, or advice on case prep).
