Benefits - MBB

Hello Preplounge community,

I have given the final round interview which went really well. We have discussed everything salary, bonus etc. Now I have couple of questions which I have mentioned below:

1 - After accepting the offer, when will you get the sign on bonus? Will I get before I join the firm as in after accepting the offer or will it come with the first month salary?

2 - What are the other things MBB sponsors before starting the job? Do they sponsor flight tickets?

3 - When does the visa process starts if you are an international candidate? Suppose you have given your interview in October and have start date in Jan? Do I sufficient time for visa process or will they give me another start date?

Hi there,

Congrats on what sounds like an offer!

1 - After accepting the offer, when will you get the sign on bonus? Will I get before I join the firm as in after accepting the offer or will it come with the first month salary?

It depends. It will either be upon signing OR upon your first month starting. Check your offer letter.

2 - What are the other things MBB sponsors before starting the job? Do they sponsor flight tickets?

They do not sponsor flights. You may be able to negotiate a relocation bonus. Many firms to provide a relocation budget that allows for reimbursement of things like shipping costs, etc. Best to just ask them!

3 - When does the visa process starts if you are an international candidate? Suppose you have given your interview in October and have start date in Jan? Do I sufficient time for visa process or will they give me another start date?

You should talk to HR here. We can't speak adequately to this and HR will have the best and most precise answer here.

This is a good answer. Agree with everything. (+1 upvote from me).
You may however be able to negotiate the flight if that is an issue to you.

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the offer!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • The signing bonus is there to convince undecided candidates. Thus, you would need to “play”/ be undecided to actually receive the signing bonus. If you accept the offer right away, there is obviously no more incentive for your future employer to lure you with the signing bonus.
  • The other perks before your actual career entry depend on the company and office/ country/ region. In general, you can expect your future employer to offer support with visas (cf. your 3rd question), relocation (where flight tickets might be included) aso. Simply think about what types of expenses you will have for starting the new job - most probably parts/ all of it might be covered by your future employer.
  • Your future employer will know best regarding the time required for the visa process and to what extent they might speed up the process. Thus, I would advise you to contact them directly and politely ask about their assessment.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your career entry, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

  1. Sign-on bonus: Depends on the company, office etc. You should check the offer letter and have a talk with the HR.
  2. Other things: Yes - in some offices there is a provision of sponsoring flybacks over the weekend. This was a common practice in Middle-East. Say you were based in Dubai - but client was in Saudi. You would be in Saudi from first 4 days of the week. Then instead of flying back to Dubai on the fifth day - you could instead choose to take a flight anywhere else (say Seychelles) - work remotely for the fifth-day, then enjoy the weekend and then return back directly to Saudi in the beginning of next week. Some other things include MBA sponsorship, child education allowance, sabbaticals, gap years etc. But again all of these items are highly office and situation dependent.
  3. Visa process: Depends on the country you are entering. Please check with HR.
