BCG Recruitment Process - Experienced Hires SEA

Hello,

I’m interested in opportunities with BCG and would like to learn more about the recruitment process for experienced hires in Southeast Asia.

  • After the online assessment, how many interview rounds are there? Are they all conducted live?
  • Do interviews with Partners/Principals include a case study component? Is this conducted live or completed online?
  • Is the case format similar to Casey, or is it more quick thinking and estimation (e.g., market sizing)?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hello,

I’ve personally been involved a lot in recruiting in Singapore (mainly at INSEAD campus in Singapore), so happy to share what you can typically expect; this assumes you are applying for a level below PL.

The process is usually structured as follows:

  • Online assessment
  • First round: 2 interviews with PLs, Principals, or Partners
  • Second round: 2 interviews with Partners / MDPs

The first round can be either via Zoom or in person, depending on logistics, while the second round is typically in person.

Both rounds include:

  • a fit / behavioral component
  • a case interview

Cases in the second round can sometimes differ slightly depending on the interviewer’s style; happy to elaborate on this if helpful, feel free to DM me.

In terms of format, cases are not like Casey. They are more focused on:

  • business judgment
  • structured communication
  • case leadership
  • alongside quantitative skills (which tend to play a relatively smaller role for experienced hires).

If you are applying for a more senior role (PL or above), the process can be quite different and more tailored.

Feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions.

Best,
Franco

hey there :)

for experienced hires in SEA at BCG, after the online assessment you typically have 2 interview rounds, both live, often virtual first and sometimes in person later. each round usually has 2 interviews.

partner or principal interviews still include a case, but it’s often a bit more high level and discussion driven, with more focus on judgment and communication rather than just structure.

the case format is similar to classic BCG cases, less like Casey, and more conversational with some estimation or quick thinking elements, but not purely brainteasers.

happy to help more if you want to prep specifics :)

best,
Alessa :)

Hi there

Typically, you have two rounds, each with two interviews. Within each interview, you have a personal fit component and a case component.

That being said, there are differences between firms and roles and review cycles, so it's best to check directly with the recruiter from that particular office.

Best,
Cristian

Great questions – and it's common to wonder about the specifics, especially for experienced hires in a dynamic region like SEA. The process can have some variability, but here’s generally what you can expect at BCG after the online assessment.

You're typically looking at 3-4 rounds of interviews after passing the online assessment. While some early rounds might be more focused on your experience and motivations, most of these will integrate a case study. Given the shift towards virtual, nearly all interviews are now conducted virtually (live via video call), including your later rounds with Principals and Partners.

Yes, Partner and Principal interviews absolutely include a robust case study component. These cases are designed to simulate real client engagements, so while they may incorporate elements like market sizing or quick estimations, they are far more comprehensive than a simple Casey-style problem. You'll be expected to structure ambiguous problems, interpret data, drive the discussion, and ultimately present a strategic recommendation – often drawing on your own professional experience. It's less about finding a single "right" answer and more about demonstrating how you think under pressure and lead a complex business discussion.

Focus on demonstrating not just problem-solving skills, but also the executive presence and strategic leadership an experienced hire is expected to bring.

All the best with your preparation!

Top US BCG / MBB Coach - 5,000 sessions |Tech, Platinion, Big 4 | 9/9 personal interviews passed | 95% candidate success

Hi there,

On rounds: For BCG experienced hires, you're generally looking at 2 rounds. Both will include a case AND a fit portion.

On Partner/Principal interviews: Yes, they include a case, and it is live. Not Casey style. Casey is the chatbot assessment that happens before you get into the interview rounds. Once you're in the actual interviews, you're doing a live candidate led case with a real interviewer. Partners and Principals both conduct live cases.

On format: Please please please do not assume it will just be market sizing or "quick thinking." Be ready for a full business case. BCG cases are candidate led: you drive the structure, ask for clarifying information, and work through the problem. Market sizing can absolutely come up as a component, but you need to be ready for the full range. BCG Real Life cases are quite rare, but flexibility is the key word.

On virtual vs in person for SEA: From what I've seen with recent candidates in Singapore and Thailand, most are still virtual... but prepare for both. The region varies.

A couple of practical notes:

  1. I have 10 real past BCG Casey tests with answer keys for proper prep before the online assessment. Shoot me a message.
  2. For the full prep journey: 360 Degree Course — covers applications, networking, cases, and fit end to end.
  3. Given you're coming in as an experienced hire and want to get the process right from the start, a coaching session early is worth it: Coaching

Good luck!

Hi!

Speaking from BCG SEA experience:

1. Typically, after online assessment, you’ll go through 2 rounds (2nd round only if you passed the 1st), with at least 2 interviews per round (3rd may be scheduled if needed only). All interviews are live (either virtual or in-person), i.e., not pre-recorded.

2. Yes, you should expect all 2 rounds (4 interviews) to have a fit + case component (total 45 mins each interview), and again, all are conducted live (either virtual or in-person). You may get interviewed by Partners/ Principals in the first round, depending on availability.

3. The format is broadly similar across rounds (not something completely different like Casey) but you do need to drive the case. You can expect:

  • Standard case interview (profitability, market entry, etc.)
  • Some market sizing / quick estimations can be part of the overall case

As you progress, especially with Managing Directors and Partners, the case may feel:

  • Less “textbook”
  • More driven by discussion and judgment
  • Focused on how you think and communicate, not just mechanics

Overall, the fundamentals remain the same throughout i.e., structuring, math, insights, and synthesis.

BCG's process varies by office and role.

After the online assessment expect two to three rounds of live interviews, either in person or video. BCG does not use asynchronous formats at the senior level.

Partner and Principal interviews almost always include a case. At the experienced hire level it is more conversational than a structured graduate-style case. They care less about frameworks and more about how you think through an ambiguous problem in real time.

On format: BCG uses their own case style, different from traditional interviewer-led cases. Casey gives you a reasonable feel for it. Market sizing questions do come up but usually as part of a broader case, not standalone.

One thing that matters a lot for experienced hires: the fit component. They want to understand your trajectory, why consulting now, and whether you can credibly walk into a client room at a senior level. That is often where experienced hires win or lose the process.

For the exact structure, reach out to a BCG recruiter or someone in the SEA office directly. Processes shift and a real conversation will tell you more than anything online.
