BCG interview - currently used cases

Hi everyone! I am about to interview with BCG F2F and already prepared quite a lot with mock interviews. Taking it one step further, do we have a compendium/data base of actual/former cases given at BCG ?

This will help in getting a taste for their interviews. Thanks!

Hi there,

Congrats on getting to the interview!

Will the interview for this role consist of a typical candidate-led case or written case? That should influence significantly your preparation.

Happy to share a case book that has examples that are from specific firms - just reach out.

Nevertheless, don't assume there is such a thing as a BCG-case only. All these firms serve similar clients and problems. As a consequence, even though the format of the case and the expectations they have from the candidate might be different between the firms, the actual content of the case is not.

Best of luck!
Cristian

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invite!

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • Unfortunately, there is no publicly accessible database of BCG case studies that is available to the general public. However, if you are interested in practicing with real-life BCG case studies, please don't hesitate to contact me directly..
  • It's important to note that BCG case studies may differ slightly in style compared to those of other consulting firms. BCG case studies tend to be shorter in length, typically lasting around 20 minutes, and may be more concise in structure. However, overall, the content and format of BCG case studies is not significantly different from those of other consulting firms. It's still important to practice and familiarize yourself with the general structure and approach to solving consulting case studies, regardless of the specific firm.
  • However, there are a few resources that may be helpful in preparing for BCG interviews. Here are a few suggestions:
    • The BCG website: The BCG website has a section specifically dedicated to preparing for consulting interviews, and it provides tips and insights on what to expect and how to prepare.
    • Consulting case interview prep books: There are a number of books available that provide guidance on how to approach consulting case interviews.
    • Practice case studies: There are many websites and forums that provide practice case studies for consulting interviews.
    • Reach out to current or former consultants, or a coach: If you know anyone who has previously worked at BCG or is currently working there, consider reaching out to them for advice and tips on preparing for the interview. Alternatively, PrepLounge offers a great variety of coaches like myelf. We may be able to provide insights on what to expect and how to prepare.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Here's a fun fact: You are as likely to get a case that matches former cases at BCG as you are any other company in the world.

What does that mean?

ZERO percent chance.

Your “job” is to get a wide exposure of case types, industries, interview styles, etc.

Learn how to be flexible/adjustable and build up your core casing skills.

Remember, more important than the case itself is the person casing you

Hi there,

Congrats on getting the interview!

There isn't a depository of BCG or MBB actual cases, in fact it would be considered a breach of confidentiality id either interviewers or candidates publish the actual cases.

Also, there isn't a variation between BCG vs Bain vs McKinsey case types as the work the companies do is similar. I would recommend to speak to someone from the local office or check with the recruitment contact whether its interviewer vs interview led case and once you know who the interviewer is, look up theit background/ sector focus as there is a chance the case will be related to that sector (many interviewers use the cases they have written based on their actual experience).

Good luck,

Lilit

It is hard to say whether there is a BCG style case. I find that some ESADE case book ones resemble BCG ones. Happy to share a few BCG style ones if you reach out.

At the end of the day, if you are doing well in mocks, you will be able to approach any case that gets thrown at you.

The one thing I would add is look to do one sustainability case as, in my previous experience, these are getting more common. Both I and my friends who got BCG offers got some related to this topic.

There's no standard. Consultants make up cases all the time. I've even given the same case in different firms… Some other cases were based on real cases being delivered at the moment.
