BCG application track record

Does the past application track record (regardless of the reason of why the process is not continued) at BCG matter for a new process that has started? The portal always says

'application not selected' regardless of the actual reasons. Will the details be anyway reviewed or will they not be stored and hence not reviewed?

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about the rejection from BCG in the past!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, BCG, among most other consulting firms, seems to maintain records of past applications. This doesn't mean that your previous applications will automatically disqualify you, but they may review the details and feedback from previous applications. I would advise you to address any feedback you received in the past and highlight how you've improved or addressed past concerns in your new application.
  • Moreover, consulting firms value persistence and the ability to learn from feedback. When reapplying, make sure to articulate any new skills, experiences, and achievements that have occurred since your last application.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hey!

Yes, BCG does keep track of past applications, but the details of why a process didn’t continue are typically not a major factor in future applications. The "application not selected" status is a standard message, and new applications are usually assessed based on your current qualifications and fit for the role. While your past application may be visible, it usually won’t impact your new process unless there was a significant issue. Additionally, companies in many countries, such as Germany, are legally allowed to store candidate data only for a limited time, usually one year, after which they must delete it. So, your previous application details may not be retained long-term. Focus on showing your improvements and fit for the new role!

Good Luck! Alessa :)

Hi there,

As long as you apply again with an improved resume and demonstrate significant growth in your profile and development (work experience, academia, leadership experience, in some countries experience abroad) you should be good to go.

Ideally, you also have a referral for a new application.

That is, unless you were blacklisted for whatever reason.

All the best,

Florian
