First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with Bain thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

• First of all, I would strongly advise not to overthink the situation. No matter how confident you are that your peers or friends can perform well, you can rest assured that their performances in the interviews have been thoroughly and objectively assessed.
• Moreover, apart from perhaps a brief period during the COVID-19 pandemic, there has really never been a complete hiring freeze, in any region or country.
• Lastly, I would strongly advise you to focus your attention on your preparation instead of pondering the reasons why your peers or friends were rejected.

Sorry for the offtopic comment, but may I ask when did you apply? I've applied recently and awaiting invite/rejection but wondering what's a typical time. DACH region as well.

Ja, aktuell hört man öfter, dass es bei Bain (und auch bei anderen MBBs) in der ersten Runde viele Absagen gibt. Das liegt weniger daran, dass alle schlecht performen, sondern eher an den momentan restriktiveren Einstellungszahlen. Die Hürden sind dadurch spürbar höher geworden. Es gibt aber weiterhin Kandidaten, die durchkommen – es ist also nicht unmöglich, nur selektiver.

Am besten fokussierst du dich darauf, deine Cases klar und strukturiert zu lösen und im Fit-Teil wirklich zu überzeugen. Der Rest hängt leider auch ein Stück weit von den Kapazitäten ab.
