Background Check Between Internship and Full-Time?

Did a background check in November for a summer internship at a BB, but since then have had some legal trouble with family court (won’t go into detail), and was wondering if there is a background check once more if you get a return offer?

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your legal issues!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, nobody knows for certain whether your future employer will conduct another background check or not.
  • Moreover, the service provider conducting the background check will use the application files you provided and check their validity.
  • Lastly, privacy laws in most countries do not allow previous employers or universities to reveal much information about you other than the fact that you worked/ studied there. Thus, background checks typically are rather superficial and are mainly meant to uncover blatant lies.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Typically, no.

Also, don't assume that if you have some legal trouble, you're then banned from all these firms. Depends on the source of the legal trouble.

All the best with rejoining!

Most likely not.

Regarding legal issues - they usually only look for convictions.

Hi there,

you will have to submit your final transcripts after you graduate but there is typically no need for an additional background check if you are returning to the same firm not too long after your internship concludes.

If your legal troubles result in something like you being convicted of a criminal offense, then it would become a different story of course.

Good luck

I guess not. But again, what will happen will happen, and there is no way to really prevent it from happening. So you probably just got to wait it out.
