Hello,

It depends where:

1) India: I believe you have a strong profile with the MBA and previous consulting experience. It is not uncommon, within the same country, for people in tier-2 to move to MBB if you are a top performer at your current company.

2) Internationally: I believe there is already a strong pool of candidates in most home markets so it may be difficult to get your foot in the door unless you have a strong motivation and work your way up through networking (avoid asking for referrals immediately!!). On the other hand, in Saudi Arabia there used to be high demand/ low supply some years ago, however I believe nowadays the market is overflooded - you can still try!.

Hi,

Yes, you should definitely apply. An average CGPA is not a deal-breaker. MBB looks much more at your work experience and leadership (especially as experienced hire). Tier-2 consulting background with international strategy projects is a real strength and can further offset grades.

BCG is great but don't exclude the other 2. In the process focus on:

  • A CV that highlights impact and leadership (not GPA)
  • Leveraging alumni referrals. I am sure some of your class mates from the MBA are at MBB
  • Strong case/fit prep. As once you’re in the room, GPA doesn’t matter

In short: average grades won’t stop you and you got nothing to lose by applying.

Let me know if you want to bouncer further. In that case send me a message!

Best,
Lukas

I don’t a strong reason not to. Here are some pointers :-

1. Eligibility & Profile Fit

  • Tier-1 MBA from India
  • Exceptional international strategy projects at a Tier-2 firm
  • Average CGPA – can be mitigated by strong work experience and story

2. Key Success Factors for MBB Application

  • Impact & Results: Quantify your contributions in previous projects. Show measurable outcomes.
  • Storytelling & Fit: Have a strong “why consulting / why BCG” narrative that links your experience to the role.
  • Referral: A strong internal referral can significantly improve your chances, especially coming from a Tier-2 background.

3. Next Steps

  • Polish your CV with a clear focus on strategic impact.
  • Network to secure referrals from MBB consultants or alumni.
  • Prepare for case interviews rigorously (practice international/strategy cases to leverage your experience).

Bottom line: You absolutely can apply to BCG. Your experience and MBA pedigree are strong; focus on bridging the “average CGPA” gap with a compelling story, clear impact, and strong networking.

Hi there,

Yes — you should definitely consider applying. MBB (including BCG) evaluate candidates holistically. While CGPA matters, it’s not a deal-breaker if you bring strong differentiators:

  • Tier-1 MBA gives you credibility and access to on-campus recruiting.
  • Exceptional international strategy projects at a Tier-2 consulting firm (for example, EY-Parthenon) are highly relevant and will stand out.
  • Consulting toolkit & client exposure already show you can hit the ground running.

To maximize chances:

  1. Network with BCG consultants and alumni from your MBA program.
  2. Sharpen your CV to emphasize quantifiable impact, global work, and leadership.
  3. Start early on case prep — your background will get you past screening, but interviews decide the outcome.

So, despite an average CGPA, your MBA plus Tier-2 consulting experience put you in a strong position.

Best,

Evelina

Hey there :)

Yes, absolutely worth applying. BCG and the other MBB firms look for a strong mix of academics, professional achievements, and international exposure. Even if your CGPA is average, your Tier-1 MBA plus standout international strategy projects at a Tier-2 consulting firm give you a compelling profile. Firms like BCG value impact, client exposure, and leadership just as much as grades.

The key will be to highlight your unique experiences, show clear impact in your projects, and demonstrate fit with BCG’s values. Networking with consultants from the office you target will also help strengthen your chances.

best,
Alessa :)
