assessment question

Hi this may seem like a basic question but i had a real hard time solving it. based on the chart i thought the answer should be:

calc top 5 rev:

in 2009 :74b*.48=35.52b

in 2003: 38b*.32=12.16b

so the increase should be: (35.32-12.16)/12.16=190%

so i thought C is the right answer, but the answer key shows that the right answer should b D. Can anyone help me understand how D is the right answer? thanks so much!

Your calculation logic is correct.

I suppose the flaw is in the language/semantics. Here are some variations that could prove both answers:

  • 35.32 is roughly 300% of 12.16
  • 35.32 represents a gain of 200% over 12.16
  • 12.16 zoomed 300% to reach 35.32
  • 12.16 increased by 200% to reach 35.32
  • Sales grew 3x from 12.16 to 35.32
  • Sales increased by 200% from 12.16 to 35.32

Hi there,

I actually 100% agree with you! I got the exact same number with the exact same logic.

The only thing I can think of is if the RHS chart relates to only 1 of the 2 markets on the left?

Otherwise, the example question answer is wrong imo!

The answer key is wrong. The right answer is C.
