You typically won’t get a new Solve invite for every application

McKinsey usually reuses your Solve score for a certain period of time (often around 12 months, though it can vary by region and role). So if you’ve already completed it for the NGWL event they will most likely use that same result when you apply to a full-time role.

Only in some cases (e.g., expired score, different recruiting track, ... you might be asked to retake it.

Hope it helps,

Hi there,

Short answer: it depends, but in most cases you won’t have to redo it immediately.

For McKinsey & Company, the Solve (game-based assessment) results are typically valid for a period of time (often around 12 months, though this can vary by region).

So in your case (APAC):

  • If you apply for a full-time role or internship within the validity window, they will usually reuse your existing Solve score
  • If your previous score is still considered valid and strong, you won’t be asked to retake it
  • If it has expired, or if they need more data for a specific role/event, they may ask you to redo it

Also, NGWL (Next Generation Women Leaders) and other programs are sometimes treated slightly differently, but generally:

  • McKinsey does try to avoid re-testing candidates unnecessarily
  • But they retain the right to re-invite you depending on the process and timing

What you should do:

  • Don’t worry about retaking it unless prompted
  • Focus on preparing for the next stage (case + PEI), since that’s what will matter most

From my experience, if you have taken Solve within the last 12 months, McKinsey will typically reuse that result for future applications (within 12 months).

If you took it more than 12 months ago, they may consider sending you a new test, although there is no guarantee that they will.

Since you are attending the event, you will likely meet people from recruiting there. My recommendation would be to find a moment to speak with them directly so they are aware of your situation and can give you a better sense of how likely it is that you would receive a new Solve invitation.

Hmm, I've heard of varying accounts on this, so I can't tell for sure.

Typically, if you re-apply within a year or so, then they use the same score. But even then, not always.

I recommend you check this with the recruiter. It's perfectly fine to ask this because then at least you'll know whether you need to prepare for Solve or not.

Best,
Cristian

hey there :)

we usually reuse your Solve result, so you won’t get a new invite for every application. only after a longer time gap you might need to retake it.

happy to help if you have more questions!

Alessa :)
