Are North American consulting internships in the Fall common? How to find?

Going on exchange in the summer next year - looking to supplement my experience with a job in the fall, but not sure where to start. Network?

Most internships are undertaken during the summer as that is how everything is currently setup. Companies recruit for then, teams all plan to have an intern on a project then and there is a clear process for recruiting and evaluating candidates during the summer.

For any other time of the year, in my opinion it is not likely at MBB, but could be likely at a boutique firm. You should reach out and network to express your interest in a fall internship. You may also need to be open to being in a location that is not a large city.

Hello!

Yes indeed it´s uncommon, but not impossible.

Something that I saw when I was interning at McKinsey was people who did it in the summer (the intership program is always in the summer) and then continued in Fall.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hi Kevin,

Not at all. I've honestly never even heard of this happening (and I've been involved in the industry for 5 years now!). This is for MBB and the big consultancies.

This is not something I would bet on at all for the major firms.

That said, plenty of smaller consultancies and boutiques will likely have opportunities. LinkedIn, Seek, etc. are all good spots to start. And, yes, Networking is always the silver bullet :)
