I want to receive updates regarding this question via email.

Are consultants from developing countries less in demand than those in developed countries?

Are consultants from developing countries less in demand than those in developed countries?

I studied in develeoped countries and wonder which office should I apply if I want to have an international career in the future.

I have not seen any specific difference in demand as per your hypothesis. I would say that the moment you start working outside your native country, you have started an international career.

You can use a few filters to boil down which office you should apply for:

  • Major and metropolitan location
  • People culture and work culture
  • Ease of immigration (to start off with - since some countries might be more difficult to get into as a complete outsider)

Not at all!

I lived and worked in 10 countries, both developed and developing. Each experience contributed to my unique profile, as is the case for you and everyone else.

Do not generalize but rather (1) build an impressive track record that shows your qualities and make sure you (2) get people excited when you tell your story. You will be hired out of anywhere if you do these two things!

FYI, I was hired out of McKinsey in Chile to join a Trading Company in Denmark. Not an obvious exit but why not?

My advice is to go with your gut and follow your passion!

No, in general it's the same thing.

But if you want to have as much international as possible, you should target one large office that tends to be a sort of regional hub (e.g. London, Dubai, Singapore, Miami, Australia, South Africa).

Hi!

Definitely not!

However, I'd say that there are some offices that are historically more central to MBB operations around the world.

My advice therefore would be to follow your instinct, passion, and motivation to guide the choice of the office.

Good luck,

Anto

NO!

Any limitations are mostly self created. With some planning, focus and commitment you can end up where you want to be. War for talent is hot at the moment and if you have the skills and right attitude, sky is the limit.

Its hard to give advice which office to target with very limited information you have given. Feel free to share your profile/CV for better advice otherwise send me a direct message and happy to help.

Hi there,

To be honest, I would say it depends on which developing countries versus which developed countries. Reputation/biases as well as immigration law means you really need to take into account the specific from and to of countries.

If you want a fully international career, I do honestly think roles/experiences in developed countries will result in more demand for your services specifically.
