Applying to MBB full-time after internship rejection

Hello everyone,

Last month, I applied to MBB internship positions but did not get in after the CV screening. Instead, I received an internship offer of a T2 firm which is starting soon. Now I am wondering, whether I am able to apply for MBB full-time positions soon, or if the internship-ban period is extended to full-time applications aswell. For reference, I want to apply in Germany.

Thank you very much in advance for all answers!

Best,

Hi there,

You are usually banned 12-18 months after a failed internship application in MBB.

Your T2 internship will help you with your re-application though. Try to get one more significant improvement in your resume through

  • academic success
  • extracurricular activities
  • international exposure

PLUS

start networking with people from your target firms.

Cheers,

Florian

As you were not successful in the resume screening it means that either your resume was poorly put together, or you didn't have quite the experience that you need.

I suspect that it's a combination of the two - in which case it's worth working on getting a bit of experience at your current firm before reapplying.

Good luck!

It is worthy to check how long and where are you ban, it is ok to ask.

Don't waste the opportunity to get consulting experience that can definitely help you when applying again to MBB.

Hi there,

Did you apply via a recruiting channel like a university? If so, you *might* be able to. Even then, I'd be surprised if you can apply again after just 1 month regardless of the scenario. Do that T2 internship! Then, with that on your resume, apply to MBB FT! (Especially with a referral ideally)

Whenever you apply next, your resume should look different with additional relevant experiences and/or accomplishments completed/achieved. This does usually not happen within just 3-6 months.

I would try to make the best out of the consulting internship you got. Try to get a return offer from them. Then you'll be in a comfortable position to look for alternatives you might like even better - or you just accept the offer and start there.

My experience is from an MBA program in the USA - not sure what your masters program is or if it varies there:

LOTS of people apply for the summer internship program, do not get an offer, and then reapply for the full time program for after graduation with the timeline: Apply January 2022 >> Do internship June-Aug 2022 >> Apply in Oct 2022 for a Fall 2023 start

And a lot of people (myself included!) who were dinged first time around used our summer internship experience to be a better candidate the second time around and get an offer! It's technically ~9 months from the first resume drop to the second resume drop, but many people apply twice. If your program is 2+ years and the firms recruit both years, they are pretty much expecting people to reapply
