Applied to BCG London and SEA office - Failed SEA assessment but haven't heard back from London.

I've applied to BCG and ranked my location preferences as London, Amsterdam and an (Southeast Asia) SEA Office.

I have already sat the London Numeracy assessment since the 4th November and have not heard back since.

Yesterday I sat the  BCG SEA Casey Case Assessment and got rejection this morning.

Given that I did not pass the BCG SEA test, will this affect my application to BCG London and Amsterdam? I already sat the BCG London test and I am pretty sure I did well with it so I am hoping that the results will not affect each other.

Thank you for you respond in advance.

I asked BCG Recruiting team of London, and they told me if one office of your location preferences has already picked up on your application form, it means that London office did not consider your application further.

Those who live in UK and passed the Online case assessment sent from BCG SEA last week have already received invitation to first round in-person interviews with the team from SEA on November 14-15 in London office. If you progress further, the final round will be virtual from November 19 onwards, and you are invited for a connection event held on November 16.

Considering that BCG operates on global staffing so it makes sense if you get rejected in 1 location, there is no need for other offices to consider your application any further. Perhaps due to a big volume for London and Europe offices this year, if you have an option for SEA offices, the teams from SEA will handle your application.

Normally you only go through the application process for one office and so I'm surprised to hear that you're progressing through two. I suspect, as others have suggested, that something went wrong in the process.

I recommend that you continue with the process, but having been rejected once it may well feed into the current application to London. I know that it's disappointing but I suggest continuing to apply to other companies as well.

Good luck!

Hi there,

It's honestly weird that this happened. You should have only received 1 test. My strong guess is that you have been rejected from all 3 offices (normally you only get a shot at one). It's *possible* you still have a shot at London…alas only time will tell!

Hi there,

Q: Given that I did not pass the BCG SEA test, will this affect my application to BCG London and Amsterdam?

Difficult to say, because it seems there was a bug in the application process. You should have been considered for one office only and received the test for that office only.

It is possible that they will consider the two processes as different as done so far, in which case the SEA test won’t affect the London test. However they may also find out the issue in terms of the two parallel processes, in which case they may reject you from all the offices.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

Although there is still some hope for London, you probably got rejected for the others. I wouldn't rely purely on those hopes and would continue applying elsewhere.

Quite likely you got rejected for both.
Try to follow up with London.
But, however, it is always a big mistake to apply for three offices at the same time.

They didn't make a mistake! They submitted *one* application and ranked their offices (different to 3 separate applications). Please don't think you made a mistake here OP!

OP here.
Thanks for all your comments,
The process has been the same for Bain as well. I made one applications and ranked three offices (London, Amsterdam and a SEA office).
Received invitation to sit SOVA test for London and a seperate HireVue test for SEA office. Very strange.

As Bain and BCG usually explain at MBA recruiting, it is a mistake to indicate interest in three offices.

The most appropriate way is to indicate 90% interest in one office.
Besides, if you indicate a significant interest in more than 1 office and you get invited for the online assessment, the chances that at least one of them will have a bad output are higher. So, it would be smart to have one assessment and postpone the other(s).

It is not strange that they ask you to have different assessments because different offices sometimes have different assessment tools/procedures.

Op here.
Thanks Maikol and everyone for your insights.
I also did the same for Bain and McKinsey. Put 90% on London office and 5% on SEA office. Got asked to sit both HireVue (SEA) and SOVA (London) for Bain.
Got an interview invitation from Bain London last friday thankfully.
Still slightly gutted about BCG but oh well, life goes on.
