Application to BCG Middle East & Case Prep

Hello Everyone!

I am sending out my resume and a short note to a Director at BCG Middle East. I would like to cater my note with respect to my interest areas etc, and was wondering if renewables/sustainability/green infrastructure are sectors that BCG is involved in, if I am applying to Dubai office?

Any pointers specific to ME & BCG would help, with respect to both cover letter and case prep.

Cheers!

Yes! All those projects are hot in the Middle-East right now across all consults.

  • O&G firms in the region have been struggling to keep up with the global pressure and competition to reduce emissions. With carbon market maturing, there is now a race to evolve as a cleaner market
  • Renewables is a major focus area for all the national development programs in the region e.g. KSA Vision 2030
  • Many new buildings/airports/etc. are coming up with focus on green/sustainability
  • Waste management, recycling, desalination etc. are also hot topics in the region these days

Hello there,

I have been part of BCG and the areas you cited are crucial for Global BCG culture. Unfortunately, Middle East can be considered an exception in this matter.

Most of the projects are linked to Saudi public sector and, as you know, they are not the best promoters of renewables:)
Having said this, I would suggest to consider a different approach if you want to keep your office choice.

I have also done some interviews in Dubai, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Best,
Luca

Not quite true! In the past 100%, not so much now.

They're terrified of the end of oil and are starting to really seriously focus their efforts on renewables!

They're even looking to generate 50% of their energy from renewables by 2030! I'm not sure if there are currently BCG ME projects in this space (checking with my contacts now), but I can't imagine there's no future here!

Hi there,

100%! Absolutely advise you to add this, especially as the Middle East (Led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia) start to invest more and more of their O&G profits into renewables.

That said, the major focus of your resume should be your roles & responsibilities & achievements. The specific industries matter a lot less than what you've actually done (led projects, taken initiative, driven business, etc.)

Happy to take a quick pass on your resume if you'd like to send it through!

Hi!

Your interests are totally in line with BCG ME and I'd add them to your cover letter.

Good luck,

Anto

Well, I don't know if there is any recent development, but these sectors were not there until 2019 in BCG ME offices. Most of the work is public sector policy in Saudi (95% of work is in saudi). There could be a small element of the sectors you are looking for but don't count on it.

If you are quite interested in the sectors you have outlined, try another office.

Hello,

That's a great idea - BCG ME is doing a lot of work in those fields right now.
