2 weeks and no McKinsey Offer Letter

I received a verbal communication of offer before Christmas.

Considering that the Firm would start working in full swing 10Jan onwards, there have been 2 weeks. My recruiter told me that there are some technical issues causing the delay.

My referer was reached out to last week as well.

However, I'm concerned that this has taken too long. Should I be concerned as an international candidate seeking relocation?

EDIT: Received my offer. Folks in the same boat, don't worry:)

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the McKinsey offer!

I think this is an interesting question that may be relevant for many people. I would be happy to share my thoughts on it:

  • It's not uncommon for there to be some delays in the offer letter process, especially during busy times like the start of the year. However, 2 weeks can be considered a long time to wait for an offer letter, and it's understandable that you may be concerned.
  • It's worth checking in with your recruiter to find out more about the technical issues causing the delay and if there is an expected timeline for when the offer letter will be sent. It's also a good idea to inquire about the status of your background check, if it has been completed, and if there are any other issues that could be causing the delay.
  • As an international candidate seeking relocation, it's important to also inquire about the visa process, if the offer letter is delayed, it may impact your ability to start the job on the expected date. Also, it's important to inquire about the support that the firm can provide you with the visa process and if there any deadlines you should be aware of.
  • It's important to keep in mind that consulting firms are highly competitive and they want to attract and retain the best talent, so they will typically do everything they can to ensure that the offer letter process goes smoothly.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to address your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi Hagen thanks for the insightful response, to add:
1) I did check with my recruiter earlier this week if there is something that I could help with to expedite the process. She said it's all pending on their end. I will still try to explore the nature of technical issue and get a better understanding of the situation.

2) My recruiter told me that the joining date would be somewhere around June, so I believe there is some buffer.

3) It's almost like that I'm ringing bells in an empty room, pretty unsatisfied with the offer letter process! Let's hope it turns out better in the coming time.

Hi there,

I saw you got your contract - congratulations!

When McKinsey says something, they stick to it - unless it's a deadline ;)

All the best!

Hi there,

No, I wouldn't be concerned.

Some times these things take time. It's highly unlikely for a prestigious firm to revoke an offer they made, so don't worry about it.

Best,

Cristian

Hi there,

You should be just fine! Please stop panicking. Nothing good comes from panicking.

Sit tight and let them reach out to you next.

If 2 weeks goes by then you can reach out again (just checking in)

That means a month has passed by now… you should reach out to them again. Not more than once a week, though.

Hi there,

I would not be concerned at this point. After holidays, it always takes a while until the machine is in full swing.

Cheers,

Florian
