UBS IBD assessment center breakdown

Hi everyone,

I’ve just been invited to UBS’s assessment center for an investment banking internship in London and I’d love to know what to expect. I understand there will be technical interviews, group exercises, and possibly a case study, but I’m unsure how much of it is quantitatively rigorous versus focused on communication and teamwork. Has anyone gone through this recently? How should I approach the group work portion, especially if I’m not naturally the most outspoken person in the room?

Congrats on getting the AC invite! 🎉

From what I’ve heard from people who went through UBS’s assessment center recently, it usually includes technical interviews, a group exercise, and sometimes a short case or presentation. The technical questions focus on the basics like DCF, comps, and accounting. Some people mentioned getting a brainteaser, but that seems pretty rare.

The group part is more about communication and collaboration than doing tough calculations. UBS seems to care about how you work with others, whether you listen, contribute ideas, and help keep things on track. You do not need to be the loudest person. I know someone who was on the quieter side but helped structure the discussion and ended up getting great feedback.

If you are not naturally outspoken, try to say something early on, even if it is just suggesting how to approach the task. That small moment can help set the tone and show initiative.

Hope it goes really well for you. You are already doing great just by making it to this stage.

Hi everyone, I recently graduated from the University of Nottingham, completed CFA Level 2, and have a year of Investment Banking experience. I’ve been applying for financial sector roles for a year without much luck. Any advice to improve my approach would be greatly appreciated
