Interview prep tips for Morgan Stanley?

Hi all,

I’ve got an upcoming interview at Morgan Stanley for an investment banking role and wanted to ask if anyone has tips on how to best prepare. How technical do their interviews usually get? Do they focus more on valuation, accounting, or market knowledge?

Thanks in advance!

Morgan Stanley IBD interviews are balanced but definitely technical. Expect a strong focus on valuation (DCF, comps, multiples) and accounting fundamentals (e.g. walk me through the 3 statements, impact of changes). Market knowledge matters too, especially in later rounds, but the core will be technical + fit.

Best prep: nail the basics, be ready to explain your thinking clearly, and review recent deals or trends. Practice out loud, it’s not just what you know, but how confidently you explain it.

Hey!

For Morgan Stanley interviews, expect a balanced mix of technical, market, and behavioral questions. Be comfortable with accounting fundamentals, how the financial statements connect, and valuation methods like DCF, trading comps, and precedent transactions.

They often test understanding over memorization, so focus on explaining logic clearly, and be ready for follow-ups on assumptions and valuation impacts.

Alongside this, Morgan Stanley values market awareness and commercial judgment. Be prepared to discuss recent deals, sector trends, and macroeconomic developments, while also having strong behavioral stories that show resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving. Reviewing core technicals, staying updated on markets, and preparing clear personal examples will position you well.
