Hey!
From what I’ve seen, Lazard actualy like most top boutiques, doesn’t expect you to have full modeling experience before your internship, but having a basic understanding definitely helps.

They know interns are there to learn, so what matters more is that you’re comfortable with Excel, understand the key financial statements, and can follow along when models are discussed or updated.

If you have time before the internship, brushing up on things like DCFs, comps, and basic formatting will give you more confidence and help you ramp up faster once you're on the desk. But no one expects you to build a full LBO model on day one.

Good luck if you’re applying!

Hey there!

From what I've seen, Lazard doesn't necessarily expect you to be a full-blown modeling expert before your internship starts. They know you're there to learn and grow. Many internships, including Lazard's, often include some initial training to get everyone on the same page with the basics of financial modeling and valuation.

However, having some foundational understanding of finance and even basic Excel skills can definitely give you a leg up. It shows your interest and aptitude, and it might help you grasp the more complex stuff a bit quicker during the internship. Think of it like this: you don't need to be a master chef to start a cooking class, but knowing your way around a kitchen and having some basic knife skills will probably make the experience more rewarding.

Hi there!

Lazard does not require prior financial modeling experience for its internship program. The firm emphasizes a candidate’s work ethic, interpersonal skills, and ability to learn over specific technical expertise, welcoming students from diverse academic backgrounds. Interns receive comprehensive training, including a one-week technical training program, to equip them with the necessary modeling and analytical skills.

The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience, with tasks like financial analysis and modeling taught on the job. Lazard values proactivity and teamwork, expecting interns to develop these skills through practical exposure and mentorship from senior bankers
