Does JPMorgan use HireVue for IB applications?

Does JPMorgan still use HireVue as part of the investment banking application process? I’ve heard mixed things: some say it’s mandatory for all applicants, others say it depends on the region or the program (e.g. off-cycle vs. summer analyst).

If anyone has applied recently, I’d love to know:

  • Did you have to complete a HireVue?
  • What kind of questions came up (behavioral, technical, or both)?
  • Is it auto-screened or reviewed by a recruiter?

Thanks!

Hey! Yeah, JPMorgan definitely still uses HireVue for IB applications, especially for Summer Analyst roles and sometimes Off-Cycle. It really depends a bit on the region and the program. In the UK/US it's almost always required, but in Germany, for example, it’s sometimes not used.

I know a few people who applied this year and all of them had to do a HireVue.

The questions were mostly behavioral (“Why JPM?”, “Tell me about a time you worked in a team,” etc.). Sometimes there were light technicals like “Walk me through a DCF,” but nothing too intense.

Is it auto-screened? Partially. From what I’ve heard, it probably goes through an algorithm first, but HR still reviews it manually, at least for the top programs.

Good luck! You've got this!

Hey There!

Yes, JPMorgan still uses HireVue for most of its investment banking applications, especially for summer analyst and graduate programs. It’s generally a required step in the process, though there can be some variation depending on the region or whether you’re applying for off-cycle roles. The platform helps them quickly assess a large pool of candidates before moving people forward to live interviews.

In terms of content, you should expect mostly behavioral questions with a few situational ones to test your thought process. Technical questions can come up, but they are usually at a high level, focusing more on your ability to explain concepts clearly rather than solving complex models on the spot. Your responses are recorded and then reviewed, often both by an algorithm for initial screening and by recruiters later on. The best approach is to prepare short, structured answers, practice delivering them confidently on camera, and show genuine motivation for JPMorgan and investment banking.
