Can I apply to IB summer associate programs through website if I do not get shortlisted for an interview on-campus?

Hello,

I am a first year MBA student. I wanted to ask if i can apply for the IB summer associate programs in some other locations seperately through websites if the banks are already recruiting from my campus and i could not secure an interview and if it is advisable to do so. I will be applying to different locations through alumni referral but I am just doubtful if my application will be considered given that they were already recruiting at my campus and I could not be shortlisted.

Not sure if you still need an answer since this was a while ago, but I think it’s generally possible to apply online even if you weren’t shortlisted for on-campus interviews. As far as I know, some banks might still consider your application, especially if you apply to locations outside your school’s main recruiting focus. It might be worth a shot, especially if you have an alumni referral – it could help get your application noticed. But honestly, I’d recommend checking with your career services or talking to alums (from your campus specifically – they’ll have the best insight into how this has worked for your school in the past, as it might not be the same for every campus) who’ve been in a similar situation to get a better idea.

Great question! The key thing to ask yourself is: "What do I have to lose by trying?" While being shortlisted on campus certainly increases your chances, there are multiple pathways to landing a job.

Some of my most resourceful and persistent clients have successfully leveraged networking, alumni referrals, and off-campus applications to break into investment banking. Exploring alternative routes can absolutely work in your favor.

Hi There!

Yes, you can still apply to investment banking summer associate programs through the bank’s website even if you weren’t shortlisted on-campus. Applications submitted directly online are typically reviewed on the same criteria as campus applications, though the volume may be higher.

To improve your chances, leveraging alumni referrals or networking contacts in the target office can help your application stand out. Tailoring your resume and cover letter to highlight relevant experience and fit for the specific office or group is crucial, and applying to multiple locations can increase your opportunities without harming your candidacy.
