Hi all,

I am looking to be coached on written case format for a senior consultant position at a Tier 2 strategy consulting firm in EMEA.

While similarities between written and “standard” case formats exist, I do believe that specifically training for written cases is important.

So does anyone have experience with a coach that meets the following criteria:

- Experience & success preparing with clients wrt to written cases (# of sessions needed; outcome etc.)
- Loads of written case material
- Specific coaching approach for written case

Thank you for your help!

Hi there,

Please shoot me a message! I have 20+ real written cases I've acquired over the years. This includes EY, Deloitte, KPMG, etc.

I have a course I've built to talk you through to do written cases. Then, I send you a written case or 2 to prepare for our session. Finally, we work through each written case live. Additionally, I have “answers” to some written cases.

Ultimately, I teach and train you in how to perform the best you possibly can on written cases!

Hi there,

Q: I am looking to be coached on written case format. So does anyone have experience with a coach.

Most coaches who have a high number of sessions can help with written cases as most likely they have coached candidates for that and have related material.

To select a few, you can do the following:

  1. Go to the main page listing the coacheshttps://www.preplounge.com/en/case-coach
  2. Filter the coaches based on your criteria (eg budget, recommendation rate, written case material present in the profile description)
  3. Read reviews/profiles – define a shortlist (eg 3-5 coaches)
  4. Message the coaches with your questions and what you would like to work on to see if there is a match
  5. Select the coach matching your needs the most

As a bonus point: you can check their Q&A answers (there is a label called “Q&A Contributions” in the profile) – it should give you an idea of the style of the coach and if it matches what you are looking for.

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me, I do a session on written cases with material to prepare in advance as well.

Best,
Francesco

Hi,

In my very first consulting interview at Kearney, I had thought it would have been a standard case interview, HR said i would be given a case. What they did not specify however is that it was a written case.

I did end up passing the interview and eventually getting the offer. The moral of this personal anecdote and advice I can share is:

  1. For sure, utilize a coach that meets your requirements on written cases - some have already identified themselves here
  2. For whichever coach you use, and they will also advise you and help you on the same, don't ignore also the opportunity to build the core abilities and skills that you are really graded on.
    • The reason is because these ‘similarities' are really the most important ones
    • You might be familiar, and good with the process of handling a written case (i.e. time management, making effective markups, quick slide/presentation generation), but if your insights and problem solving skills aren't good, it doesn't matter

All the best!

#1 rated MBB & McKinsey Coach

Hi there,

I've worked with multiple candidates for written cases.

I can share with you (no strings attached) a bunch of free materials and a practice case. Then, if you're interested, we can also do a mock session together to get you ready for the interview.

Best,
Cristian
