Are my histories good for each of the analysed dimensions in the PEI interview at McKinsey?

Interview McKinsey McKinsey PEI PEI
Most recent answer on Jul 29, 2021

Hello,

I will have my first of possible 3 interviews with McKinsey in two weeks and currently working on my PEI aswers, so I would like to know if my histories are a good fit for the interview and if I'm putting each one of them in the correct dimension so far.

Personal impact

There was a client who wanted to do a project with us, but my boss thought it wasn't worth it, cause the company was kinda small.

I've done some reserached and discovered that the clinent had a huge potential to buy our product in the future, and they were looking for investment in technology (I used to worked on a software company)

I presented my findings to my former boss and was able to work on the project, which later resulted in the company renting the software for a year.

Entrepreneurial drive:

I've worked on a project with a customer that I was used to already, but this particular project where much more urgent than the others in the past, had a shorter deadline, and also involved more important people than I was used to.

I managed to create a cronogram involving each stakeholder weekly and delivered results as the time passed, and at the end the I solved the main problem that it was asked and even improved their old process giving them a more cost saving solution.

Inclusive leadership

Talking to a colleague in Portugual (I'm from Brazil) I've discovered that they had a similar problem that we had here, that were low reach of new clients.

So I thought we could do some some digital events to try to reach new potencial customers.

I then organzed two webinars with the team in Portugal, and some colleagues in Germany and USA, from content creation to dissemination on social networks and newsletters. Gathered partners to do some presentations, and the event was really successfull, bring some more visibility to the company and even new projects opportunities.

Are theses good exemples to use in the PEI interviews?

2 invitations to McKinsey Imbellus game?

Interview McKinsey McKinsey McKinsey & Company McKinsey problem solving game
Most recent answer on Jul 22, 2021

TLDR: I received 2 invitations to the problem solving game from 2 different offices with 2 deadlines. Do I take both or just one?

Hi guys, I'm currently in the early stages of the recruiment process at McKinsey. I submitted my application on Monday July 19 and received an email on Wednesday July 21 to take the problem solving game. Today I received another invitation to the game from a different recruiter. The first invitation gives me a week to take it, and the second invitation gives me until this Sunday July 25. I looked up both recruiters, and they are from 2 different regions of the world that I have indicated interests in. The registration link included in both email is the same, but I was able to register for a different time slot in the second one.

Anyways, do I do both assessments or just one (the one with the earlier deadline)? I also would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what you did. Thank you!

Hello, I think that you have just found a kind of bug :) Do you have a strong preference for one of the two regions? If that's the case, I would do that test for first. Anyway it's not your fault if you received two ... (read entire answer)

How can I get better?

case interview preparation Interview McKinsey
Most recent answer on Jun 12, 2021

I have an interview with Mckinsey in 2 weeks. I have done 120 meetings on Preplounge and some cases with other people. I do well in some cases and have made progress but still, there are many cases that I do not do well. Even for the cases that I do well, there is always something that I could do better. How can I fix this issue? Should I be worried about this situation?

I dont want to psycho-analyse you, but my gut feel is that you probably struggle to get to a nice structure with ease regardless of the type of case (industry/function)- this is typically where candidates struggle! Once ... (read entire answer)

Good morning to everybody,
I will sit my 1st round in McK next week, but both the interview will be with Partner nevertheless it will be just the first round. At the beginning of the hiring process, they said the first round would have been with managers. Why did I skip the manager's interview? Thank you

McKinsey Early Access Imbellus Test...Am I screwed?

BCG McKinsey and Bain Interview McKinsey McKinsey McKinsey & Company Problem Solving Test
Most recent answer on May 24, 2021

Hi, everyone. As part of McKinsey's "Early Access" 2021 pre-MBA program, I ended up taking McKinsey's Problem Solving Game, the Imbellus Test. Given McKinsey stating that "(...) all MBA candidates interviewing for Summer Associate positions in North American offices will play the game this fall, so taking it now puts you a step ahead during this busy time", I played the game casually and simply to get a flavour of what to expect in a few months, finishing in far less time than allocated. (Emphasis mine.)

However, I am now hearing that we will only have the opportunity to play the Imbellus Test once, even if it was part of McKinsey's Early Access. If so, this was never made clear in any of McKinsey's communications, such that the common notion that "any experiences during the early-MBA programs are non-predictive of the fall-recruiting cycle" was completely violated.

Imagine getting into a top school, taking a loan and budgeting hundreds of thousands of dollars, and then getting rejected by McKinsey because of a f*cking videogame.

Hi there, Sorry to hear you had issues with the Imbellus. I am not 100% sure I understood the situation. You said they sent you the link for the Imbellus in advance, offering the opportunity to do the test earlier f ... (read entire answer)

McKinsey Non-Conventional Cases that have been asked in real interviews

Interview McKinsey MBB McKinsey
Most recent answer on Aug 31, 2020

I'd love to get some questions people know that have been asked in real interview cases that are non-conventional (i.e. non-business cases) - ALSO the MECE approach to solving them on a very high-level would be very helpful.

E.g. What is the root cause of lower employee performance at a firm?

- Trying to practice MECE structuring in these types of cases

Hi, the last unconventional McK case I have heard about regards the decision of a famous zoo to buy the unique example of living dinosaur just discovered. Best, Antonello

Mckinsey final round

Implementation Interview McKinsey
Most recent answer on Mar 23, 2020

Hi, wondering has anyone had recent experience with McKInsey final round or heard any insights? I'm headind to the final round. Would like to reach out to the community here to get some thoughts on:

what are the key things they are looking for in the final round

what will make or break it

any special focus when it comes to implementation practice

I've talked to mck consultants and my previous interviewer, they all said the final round follows the exact same format, same type of cases, prepare it the same way you did as previously. However, I've also seen posts here from earlier years that suggested otherwise. Could someone shed some light on this? Much appreciated!

Have multiple MBB offers, not sure how to decide (Bain Middle East and McKinsey Pakistan)

Bain & Company BCG McKinsey and Bain Interview McKinsey McKinsey offer Middle East Multiple offers offer time to sign the offer
Most recent answer on Mar 23, 2020

Hello!

I currently have offers from both Bain and McKinsey and I am having trouble making my decision. Just some details, the offers are from different offices/geographies which is why the decision is tough. The Bain offer is for the Dubai office in the Middle East and the McKinsey offer is for the Karachi Office in Pakistan (both offers are for an entry level undergrad consulting role). I personally see a better fit with Bain as I have a lot of friends and ex colleagues working there. My main issue is foregoing the McKinsey brand, however McKinsey Pakistan seems to be highly localised (the compensation is fairly low to global standards, work is mostly going to be in Pakistan and the cultural fit doesn't seem to click). I'm getting on call with managers from both firms but what would you guys recommend? Should i opt for the interntional exposure for Dubai or go for the bigger brand name of McKinsey?

How would my decision change if I can convince McKinsey to give me Dubai office?

Thank you all in advance!

Hi! Given your description you have a couple of options: A. Join Bain in Dubai B. Join McK in Karachi C. Try to join McK in Dubai Since you don't feel comfortable with working in Pakistan, are concerned about ... (read entire answer)
