Nationality on CV

Hi all,

this my sound as a dumb question but I am super curious about it.

I am currently a permanent resident (equivalent to Green Card in the US) of Canada and I have a middle eastern passport. I am authorized to work in Canada because of my permanent residency status. Will my chances be lower to get into MBBs since I don’t have an international passport? (As we all know that MBB involves a lot of travelling and I will definitely need a visa to travel to clients outside of Canada)

your help is much appreciated!

Thank you

Hi there,

Your residency matters in relation to the country in which you are applying. You will mostly work in that country, and, if you do need to travel internationally, you'll be able to do so through the company. If you are applying in Canada and have working rights in Canada, you should be just fine.

MBB doesn't weight a Germany passport (the highest rated) more than a middle east passport if you're working in Jamaica!

Hi there,

If you can work in Canada (country where you are applying) you should be fine, that’s the main check they will do. Just be sure to indicate you have rights to work in Canada in your CV.

Best,

Francesco

No - they don't really care about that.

Once you have an MBB backing your visa application for whatever country it gets a lot easier. There will be people in charge of helping you deal with this, so you can take it off your mind.

Hi there,

Makes no difference to the company as long as you have residency in the country you're applying for.

In fact, you may not even need residency. I was hired by McKinsey in a country that I didn’t have a visa for, nor spoke the local language well.

Bottom line: if they want you, they’re going to do what it takes!

Hope this helps a bit. Best of luck!

Hi there,

As long as you are legally allowed to work in the country and speak the office's language, a foreign nationally is actually a plus in MBB, as these days they strive for diversity.  I've always used my “foreignness” as an advantage.

Good luck!

No it will not. So many people at MBB are international, they are very used to dealing with visa issues when it comes to staffing. Do not worry about it at all.

On paper and as far as a fair/transparent recruitment process is concerned, you nationality has no bearing. But reality is different if you require work permits/sponsorships and business visa. No one will discriminate on this basis, but the process gets tougher and competitive to get in.

Most US offices, UK, Singapore, Dubai etc are very competitive. And unfortunately visa restrictions do play a part in these countries.

Just indicate your status on CV and dont worry too much. Put forward a strong application, network well and let things happen.

Hello!

I feel I miss some information. Do you ask because you are doubting what to put in the CV that you will submit, in case this hinders your opportunities?

I honestly wouldn´t put anything else than the place where you currently are, as most CVs, and let this be a conversation in the future with HR (in the happy case of getting hired)

Cheers,

Clara
