BCGX R3&R4 Interview

Hi, not sure if this is right channel to ask.

i do have an upcoming R3&R4 (Engineering Product & Partner respectively) interview with BCGX. I couldn’t find much information about interview procedure online with BCGX. I want to check if there’s any insights/ experiences with this? Could you share how is it like?

Most insights i saw online are purely case interviews but is it really the same for BCGX (Digital Venture)?

You're in the right place and great to hear you're progressing to R3 & R4 with BCG X!

The BCG X interview process (formerly BCG Digital Ventures and BCG Gamma) typically combines elements of traditional case interviews with a stronger emphasis on product thinking, engineering depth, and collaboration, especially in later rounds like R3 and R4.

Here’s what to expect:

Round 3 – Engineering Product Interview

  • May include a case-style discussion focused on product architecture, scalability, trade-offs, or technical design decisions
  • You might be asked to prioritize features, assess technical feasibility, or walk through how you’d build and ship a product
  • Clear, structured communication is key, even in technical discussions

Round 4 – Partner Interview

  • Tends to be less technical, more focused on strategic thinking, stakeholder alignment, and leadership potential
  • You may be tested on your ability to influence decisions, handle ambiguity, and bridge business and tech
  • Expect behavioral questions and potentially a high-level business case with a digital lens

General Tips:

  • Prepare for cases with a digital/product twist (e.g., launching a new platform, scaling infrastructure, improving user conversion)
  • Be ready to discuss your past engineering decisions and how they created impact
  • Demonstrate collaboration and product mindset, not just technical execution

You're nearly there, let me know if you’d like to run through a mock or tailor your prep for a technical-product hybrid case.

Thanks for the clarity! Just to confirm — does this mean there won’t be a formal business case interview, like the classic consulting ones? 😅 Also curious — when you mentioned the high-level business case with a digital lens, is that from past candidate experiences or official guidance? Would love to get a sense of what to expect and how deep the discussion usually goes!

Hello there!

That depends to the role you’re applying to. Would it be regular consultant within BCG X or a technical role (eng, designer, data scientist, PM?). If it is a technical role, you’ll be given a tech assessment, followed by case interviews (similar to a business case, following the same logic but with a focus in BCG X scope) and behavioral interviews. All of these parts are critical, the technical assessment being the first filter.

Happy to assist you with the case and behavioral interviews, if you would like to know more details, I’m one message away!

Best,

Mari

Hi! Its a designer role. I've passed portfolio, technical (design+biz) case study, now moving to R3 and R4! I'm just wondering what could the format be as I've realised there's alot of case studies for normal strategy consultant. So, i was wondering in my case will there be more case studies for the following rounds hahha

One other piece of advice - reach out to a couple of people who are now working at BCGX and ask them for advice on the application process. You don't need to ask them directly about the questions they received in the interview as this will kill the discussion, but for advice on how to best prepare and what worked specifically for them.

Best,
Cristian
