BCG Application Process - Online Tests

Hi Coaches,

I have been looking at the BCG online testing guides under the Prep Lounge Resources section.

I am not 100% clear what online tests, BCG applicants are expected to take.

I found some old Q&A posts going back to Jan 2023 and Aug 2023 mentioning some offices requesting a quant test and others just mentioning pymetric.

Are all experienced hires expected to take just 1 of the below tests or a combination?

i) BCG Online Potential Test

ii) BCG Casey Chatbot Case

iii) Pymetrics Test

Any suggestions on how to best prepare for the quant test?

Does it require pre-requisite knowledge, eg financial formulae/metrics etc?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Q: Are all experienced hires expected to take just 1 of the below tests or a combination?

BCG uses different tests depending on the office and role.

In most cases, you will have to do the BCG Online Case (number (ii) in your list - also called Chatbot or Casey). Sometimes, together with the BCG Online Case, you will also have Pymetrics (number (iii) in your list). In some offices/roles, instead of the Chatbot, you will have to do a quant test.

The BCG Potential Test (number (i) in your list) is the old test BCG used to have (that test was also called BCG Online Case sometimes, which increases the confusion on the topic). The Potential Test might be useful to train your math skills, but the new format of the test is different.

Depending on the test, the preparation might be different. I would try to target resources matching the specific test you will have to do. If you are not sure which test is used in your target office, I would recommend checking with HR.

For the BCG Online Case (Casey Chatbot), you can check the article below for a few tips:

Best,

Francesco

Hi there!

That's a great question, but the reason you find different answers in different Q&A posts is because the process does differ between geographies.

I would strongly encourage you to reach out to the recruiter in your target BCG office to understand what tests you can expect. Then you can prepare in a more tailored fashion. As simple as that.

Good luck!

Hi there,

You will almost always get the BCG Casey Chatbot.

It 100% requires prep upfront.

I have 5 of the past real tests from my past candidates with answer keys. I provide this to all of my candidates - if interested feel free to message!

There are also some great simulations/tests online

Hi,

This depends on the system and your profile.

In general, you do not need to have any technical knowledge. But you do need some basic understanding of business (e.g. profit).

All the best!
