Hi everyone,

Looking for some insights to decide between the two offers that I've received.

If you had to choose between Altman Solon to work mostly in CDD for PE clients and Accenture Strategy for the M&A/Private Equity team, which one would you go for? Both offers are quite similar in terms of compensation, seniority and type of work, it's more down to brand recognition/prestige, growth opportunities and career exits for PE.

Thank you!

Hi Tomás,

First of all, congratulations on the offers!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

From my own experiences, I would advise you to go for Altman Solon for the following reason:

  • Prestige seems to be pretty similar yet for the PE industry, Altman Solon seems to be more the go-to partner of small and mid cap funds.
  • Growth opportunities might be pretty similar though Accenture Strategy obviously offers the bigger platform with Accenture as parent.
  • Regarding your career exits into the PE industry, I would again favor Altman Solon for the above-mentioned reason.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your upcoming career entry, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

30% off in April 2024 | Bain | EY-Parthenon | Roland Berger | Market Sizing | DARDEN MBA

Altman Solon has the advantage of being focused on an industry vertical, which will provide you with a bit more expertise and on the long run your work life balance will be better, and your exit opportunities in that specific industry will be stronger. The downside is that you have to want to work in that specific industry vertical…

Accenture may be a more well-known brand name worldwide, but the big professional service firms tend to have a much higher degree of internal office politics.

Accenture, Deloitte | Precision Case Prep | Experienced Interviewer & Career Coach | 15 years professional experience

Hi Tomás,

In your preparation, interview and research which of the two did you find to be a better FIT in terms of matching with your values (personal, professional), career aspirations and risk profile? Go for that which is a better FIT, as this will allow you to be happier, perform better and create the right exit opportunities. Dont take one over the other just because its a better brand or pays more money. You could end being miserable

Remove the pressure of finding the “perfect job”. There is nothing like that! Every job will have its ups and downs.

Have a look at this article I have written specifically to answer this question: https://www.preplounge.com/en/how-do-i-know-which-career-is-right-for-me

All the best choosing.
