A classic one, especially on this website: How do I prepare for my case interview?

How do I prepare for my case interview?

Dear participant,
Classic but very important question since every consulting firm has a slightly different case preparation.
Let me share with you how I prepared for the case interviews:
- Basic business case preparation – I would suggest you practice and learn how to structure different types of business cases (e.g., strategy, operations, market sizing…).
- SAC specific business case preparation – Once you are able to structure and solve different types of business cases I suggest you to go to SAC website and look at different case studies (you will be able to find different case studies per expertise and industry).
By doing this, you will be able to see SAC real cases as well as prepare more efficiently for the case interview.
I hope these tips help you within the process, wish you the best.
Kind regards,
Paloma

Dear candidate,
To add on my colleagues advice:
- Make sure you practice with peers solving the case AND giving the case.
- Practice solving the case: make sure you are solving cases with peers and not on your own. On the interview day, you will have an interviewer actually asking you to solve the case in a short amount of time. You better be prepared ;)
- Practice given the case: this can help you put yourself in your interviewer's shoes and see your performance from another eye. Don't neglect this part as you will also learn from it!
- To practice SAC case, check our website (e.g. https://www.siemens-advanta.com/about-us/cases-overview). We have some resources where you can start at.
Here is a four-step approach to identifying the problem that I suppose can help you:
1. Listen to the case prompt and take tidy notes
2. Engage the interviewer and ask key questions (clarify unclear information in the prompt, understand the business model and market context)
3. Formulate your hypothesis on the problem
4. State the problem, get feedback
