Cases can vary quite a bit. You may get profitability cases, market entry cases, growth strategy cases, process optimization cases, or many other topics.

Sometimes BCG also uses more unconventional cases that are not strictly business-related, so it is difficult to identify a single case type that dominates all interviews.

That said, if I had to pick one case type that is most commonly represented, it would be profitability cases.

These can take two main forms:

  • Understanding why profitability has declined
  • Identifying opportunities to improve profitability and increase margins

So while you should be comfortable with a broad range of case types, profitability cases are probably the safest area to prioritize if you're trying to maximize your preparation efficiency.

In my experience, there isn't a single "most common" case type in the GCC.

What you should expect is a strong mix of:

  • growth strategy
  • market entry
  • profitability
  • public sector / economic development
  • transformation

The GCC is a bit different from Europe or North America because a significant share of work is linked to governments, sovereign entities, giga-projects, national champions, and large-scale transformation programs.

So don't be surprised if you see cases around:

  • tourism development
  • economic diversification
  • infrastructure
  • healthcare or education transformation
  • government effectiveness
  • national strategy topics

That said, the underlying skills being tested are exactly the same:

  • structuring
  • quantitative analysis
  • business judgment
  • communication

My advice would be not to over-focus on specific industries. A candidate with excellent case fundamentals will generally outperform someone who has memorized GCC-specific frameworks but struggles with core consulting skills.

One final point: in GCC offices, interviewers often care a lot about your ability to deal with ambiguity and think at a high level. So make sure you're comfortable discussing strategic implications and recommendations, not just crunching numbers.

The coaches have already given the answer I would have given: profitability, growth and market entry cases are probably the most common themes you’ll encounter.

One observation from my own BCG interviews is that I would spend less time worrying about the exact case type and more time focusing on your fundamentals. Strong structuring, clear communication, solid maths and a logical recommendation will take you a long way regardless of the topic.

Interviewers are not usually assessing whether you’ve seen that exact case before. They are assessing how you think.

Keep it simple. Communicate clearly. Make it easy for the interviewer to follow your thinking.

Hey!

for BCG the highest likelihood is as follows:

A) Profitability (best to judge business judgement, maths, etc.)

B) Market Entry / Sizing (in sync with BCG DNA of Growth Topics)

C) Process Optimization

Hope that helps :)

Let me know if you need anything else!

There isn't one.

What is worth clarifying, though, with the recruiter is whether you will be receiving cases from any industry / functional area or only from a specific one (the latter is for when you apply for specialist roles).

You might also want to visit the case library on PrepLounge for some prep examples.

hey!

BCG most commonly gives market sizing, profitability, and growth/strategy cases - FROM MY EXPERIENCE!

The region leans heavily toward practical, numbers‑driven cases because clients are often government entities, sovereign wealth funds, and large conglomerates. Expect simple but data‑dense exhibits, straightforward math, and clear structuring. You’ll also see public‑sector transformation cases, but they’re usually framed as classic strategy problems rather than policy deep dives.

In BCG GCC (Dubai, Riyadh, Doha, Abu Dhabi), the most common case types are.

Government and public sector strategy. Vision 2030 entities, ministry transformation, giga-project economics, sovereign wealth fund advisory.

Energy and energy transition. National oil companies (Aramco, ADNOC, QatarEnergy), renewables, hydrogen, decarbonisation.

Financial services. Banks, central banks, fintech, capital markets.

Profitability and growth. Standard commercial cases for regional corporates and family conglomerates.

Market entry. Companies entering GCC markets or GCC firms expanding regionally and globally.

Operations and supply chain. Logistics, manufacturing, industrial transformation tied to Vision 2030.

How to prep. Mix generalist BCG cases with GCC-flavoured contexts. Read BCG ME thought leadership on energy, public sector, and Vision 2030 topics. Build regional vocabulary.

Good luck.
