What should I focus on when preparing for a Deloitte Copenhagen interview for a Strategy & Performance role? What types of case interviews should I expect, and what kinds of personal fit questions are typically asked

I’m currently preparing for the interview process, including both the case interviews and the personal fit interviews. I’d appreciate some guidance on where to focus my preparation.

For the case interviews, are there particular case types that are more common for the Strategy & Performance team? For example, should I prioritize market entry, growth strategy, M&A, profitability, operating model, or transformation cases?

For the personal fit interview, are there any themes or questions that Deloitte typically emphasizes? Are there any common behavioral questions or competencies that I should be prepared to discuss?

Any advice on how to best prepare would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi,

Overall the process is more similar to Bain and BCG than to McKinsey, both on the case and the fit side.

On the cases, expect a candidate-led format, so you lead the structure and drive the analysis yourself. Given the nature of Strategy & Performance work, they tend to lean towards profitability, cost and operating-model topics rather than pure strategy, though growth, market and transformation cases can all come up depending on the interviewer and team.

On fit, expect shorter, competency-based questions rather than long structured stories. Have four or five flexible STAR stories ready that you can adapt across leadership, teamwork, conflict and impact, and prepare a genuine, concrete answer on why Deloitte and why this team, since “why Deloitte” is one of the questions they care most about.

Hope it helps and happy to run a case or go through your fit stories with you if useful.

hey there :)

for Deloitte Copenhagen Strategy & Performance, I’d prioritize market entry, growth strategy, profitability, operating model, and transformation cases. M&A can come up, but I wouldn’t spend most of your preparation time on it unless the role description specifically emphasizes transactions.

For fit, prepare strong stories around leadership, teamwork, handling difficult stakeholders, problem solving, and taking ownership. You should also have a very clear answer for why Deloitte, why Strategy & Performance, and why Copenhagen.

Since you have time, I’d focus less on memorizing frameworks and more on doing live cases and practicing how you communicate your thinking. That will usually make the biggest difference.

Good luck with the interview, and feel free to reach out if you want to practice a case together. Best, Alessa :)

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from Deloitte!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

  • First of all, I have helped numerous people with Deloitte, and would be glad to help you as well.
  • Moreover, I would strongly advise you to change your mindset and ensure you are prepared for anything - besides that there really are no more or less likely case study question types for a somewhat generalist role.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming Deloitte interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi,

I would suggest trying not to predict the type of cases. It's really hard to and sets you in the wrong mindset.

For the fit questions - the common themes that consulting firms look for are essentially the same. Go to any website of MBB and Deloitte and the same themes would be there (e.g. Leadership/teamwork, managing relationships etc). Prepare for those first. For the other 'curveball' type questions, you should prepare for them only if you have time.

All the best!
