Hi!

Depends what kind of healthcare you mean - there is variety.

The Boston office has a lot of Biotech clients. New York has big Pharma clients. If you're looking for Provider / Payer clients, these will be spread across all offices but bear in mind these will be a smaller portion of revenue than Pharma and Biotech.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, the focus of a consulting firm's office depends primarily on the focus of the region or country. Therefore, depending on your target regions, I would advise you to research the strength of the regional/national healthcare industry to find out. Nonetheless, there is hardly any country where healthcare is not a major industry for consulting.
  • Moreover, I would advise you to consider boutique consulting firms if healthcare is your passion. You can find more on this topic in this article I wrote.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi there,

Look for regions with a concentration of healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, e.g.,

  1. Boston
  2. San Francisco
  3. Zurich and Geneva
  4. Shanghai
  5. London

Cheers,

Florian

Hi!

As mentioned above, it really does depend on what subsector of Healthcare you are looking at but Chicago and Houston tend to have a large healthcare base among partners in addition to the cities mentioned.

However, you will find partners at McKinsey that are either more industry-aligned or functionally-aligned (type of consulting work). Due to this and McKinsey's global staffing model, being in one office even if it isn't a "healthcare heavy office" won't necessarily hurt your chances of getting onto healthcare engagements.

Hope this helps!

Add New Jersey to the list as it has a number of pharma companies.
