What kind of case study or task did you get?

Hi everyone! đź‘‹

I’m currently applying for graduate roles and practising case studies — especially for consulting (OC&C, FTI Consulting) and finance roles (Zopa, LSEG, BlackRock, etc.).

I was wondering if anyone here has attended an Assessment Centre or interview with any of these companies before?
đź’ What kind of case study or task did you get?
📚 Any sources or websites you recommend for practice?
đź’ˇ Any tips or advice that helped you prepare or perform better?

Would really appreciate any insight — thank you so much in advance! 🙏

Hi Annie, great that you’re being proactive — but just flagging that your question’s a bit broad. Consulting and finance roles tend to have very different interview and case formats, so it’s important to tailor your prep depending on the company and role.

For consulting firms like OC&C or FTI, you’ll likely face a structured business case interview — where they test your problem-solving, logic, and commercial thinking. To prep:

  • Start familiarizing yourself classic case formats
  • Practice breaking down problems into buckets (e.g. profitability, growth, market entry)
  • Work on chart interpretation + doing math under time pressure
  • Always speak your thinking out loud clearly and top-down

For finance roles (Zopa, LSEG, BlackRock), assessment centres often focus more on:

  • Situational judgment or behavioral tasks
  • Excel/data exercises or caselets focused on financial metrics
  • Occasionally, IQ test or logic/problem-solving games

If you can narrow your question down to a specific company or type of task, happy to give more tailored advice!

Hope it helps!

Hey Annie :)

For OC&C and FTI, expect classic consulting-style cases, market entry, profitability, or strategy growth, often 30–45 min with charts and some math. For finance roles like Zopa, LSEG, or BlackRock, tasks are more data-driven or investment-focused, analyzing performance metrics, risk, or portfolio decisions.

Good practice sources: PrepLounge, CaseCoach, and Victor Cheng for consulting; and Wall Street Prep or Investopedia for finance-style tasks. My tip: always structure your thoughts first, even if the task seems quantitative, they want to see your reasoning, not just the right number.

best, Alessa :)
