What is the hiring process for experienced hires in McKinsey Digital Practice ?

I am interviewing with McKinsey Digital practice. I have 15 + years of expereince IT transformation. McKinsey approached me because of particlar projects I have executed. Now I am intervieweing with partners and digital experts at McKinsey. Can anyone describe the process of recruitment for expereinced hires for special skills in IT transformation ? Does it follow the case interview approach or is there a different approach. What are the key things to consider and keep in mind . Thank you

Hi Anonymous,

the structure of the process is the same:

Behavioral questions. Unlike new grads, besides standard PEI questions you will likely get questions about industry experience, team management, project management and client relationship (I assume you would join at a level equivalent to Associate Partner given your experience)
Case questions. You can expect general and digital ones, plus unconventional cases which are more common in partner rounds
Your questions at the end.

Hi,

With 15 years of experience, it will be very different from the classic interviews. They will test:

Fit (You should be prepared with the classic PEI questions: Why company, why consulting, Leadership, personal impact, entrepreneurial drive stories)
Your expertise in the area
Your approach to structuring projects / allocating teams / defining end products / defining timelines

Hi,

While it doesn't follow the classic case flow, the approach is similar and the skills you use from casing can (and should) be applied. That being said, the interviews will be much different. You will be asked much more specific, deep, technical questions, and discussions will be had in-depth on particular topics. You will also mostly interview with Partners.

Hello and congrats for the interview!

Regarding the definition of the Expert Track -that you will be interviewing for-: it means that you will mainly be working on topics and clients related to the industry. The job description and scope are the same ones than a generalist role, the only thing that changes is the topic -and it influences the lifestyle, probably better schedules but more traveling-.

Interview process will be the classic FIT + Business Case + Q&A. However, FIT would be particularly relevant in this point, as well as Q&A.
