Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, the Sustainable Futures Lab is the newest and third game module in McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment. In short, you manage a project situation over several rounds: you get data, you make decisions with incomplete information, and you have to balance different factors against each other while the conditions change. It mainly tests pattern recognition, logical thinking and how you adapt your decisions when new information arrives.
  • Moreover, contrary to what other coaches have said, the McKinsey Solve landing page currently does not cover the Sustainable Futures Lab at all, neither in the video nor in the FAQ.
  • Lastly, I would advise you not to chase the exact game or purchase expensive but not well-fitting simulations, but to train the underlying skills: play some strategy or logic games under time pressure, read the official instructions very carefully on test day, and make sure you take the McKinsey Solve rested and with a stable internet setup.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessments and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi,

Sustainable Future Lab is the third and newest of the games in the current Solve, alongside Redrock and Sea Wolf.

For what it actually involves, I would go to McKinsey's own Solve page and FAQs rather than to a third-party description. They show the current format directly, including a short video. Much of what is sold online is either still describing the legacy games or reconstructing this one from candidate reports, so the detail changes depending on who wrote it.

If your test includes this module, the thing to plan for is the interface. This is the game people have had least exposure to, and losing minutes at the start working out how it operates is a real risk.

Best,

Federico

hey!

It's one of the game based modules in McKinsey Solve. It tests how well you can identify patterns, make decisions with incomplete information, and balance different factors to build a sustainable system.

If you’re preparing for Solve, I’d focus on understanding the game mechanics and practicing similar problem solving exercises rather than trying to predict the exact game you’ll receive.

Best, Alessa :)
