Tailoring PEI stories

Guys, I need a coach to build up my PEI stories cause currently I have 0. My first round of interviews is in a week and also I would be happy to work out non-conventional cases as well.

Do you have experience with coaches, if yes, with whom?

And is it really effective? (costly for sure)

Hi there,

I have written a detailed article on the PEI here that covers all aspects here.

https://www.preplounge.com/en/mckinsey-pei

The article covers:

  1. Questions of the PEI and Content that makes for strong answers
  2. Delivery and Communication with the SCORE framework, which I developed
  3. Preparation and Practice

If you have any specific questions or need an honest McK perspective on your stories, feel free to reach out.

As regards cases, I have developed quite a few typical 'creative' McKinsey cases that cover up-to-date topics such as COVID and sustainability.

Cheers,

Florian

The PEI is my favourite element of coaching, which is why I also developed a guide that is targeted at anyone who is preparing for the interview, even in a situation in which they cannot afford coaching.

You can find more about it here:

Ex-McKinsey final round interviewer | Executive Coach

Costly is all relative where I don't think you've given yourself a choice based on your timeline and readiness. I would propose the following in order of priority:

1. Work through your personal impact and inclusive leadership stories with an ex-McKinsey interviewer coach. In my view, PEI coaching has the highest ROI as its the part of the McKinsey selection process where you know what to expect and you can be fully prepared

2. Before you worry about unconventional cases, for round 1, I would nail profitability and market entry first. There are loads of good cases out there and you could practice with a case partner

3. If you are comfortable with 1 and 2, then I would focus on unconventional cases where I would go through a few that you are able to find but here I feel you would be solving for the long tail which doesn't make as much sense based on your timeline

Good luck!
