Hi there! I completed my screening with BCG Vantage and made it to the first official round. It is a 45-minute interview: Expertise & Fit. I was told I will get a mini problem-solving question in the interview. Not so sure how to approach the prep. Has anyone done it before? Is the problem-solving like a case study? Would love some guidance, as the turnaround has been really quick and the interview is in 2 days.

Two days is short, but it’s still enough time to sharpen the areas most likely to matter. I wouldn’t spend those days trying to reverse-engineer BCG’s interview from limited information.
Instead, make sure you can talk naturally about your biopharma work, especially the decisions you influenced and the business impact behind your experience. It’s also worth having a few real examples in mind from your career that show how you handled difficult situations, worked with others, took ownership, or learned from something that didn’t go as planned.
You may also get questions with no obvious “right” answer. In that situation, clear assumptions and a logical thought process can matter more than reaching a perfect conclusion.
If you want some structured practice for the personal side, the spend some time with the biopharma episodes from the Consulting Offer Blueprint podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
Go in prepared, but don’t over-prepare for a format that may not even appear. Good luck!

Two days means you need to focus, not try to predict the exact interview!
Based on what they told you, prepare for three things:
- Expertise. Be ready to discuss your biopharma experience, explain what you actually did, and translate it into commercial implications.
- Fit. Prepare flexible stories around leadership, teamwork, conflict, impact, and failure.
- Mini problem solving. Expect short, ambiguous questions that test how you structure, think, and communicate rather than a full traditional case.
Nobody outside BCG can tell you the exact format, so prepare broadly and stay flexible.

Congrats for the interview! The case is quite similar to a classic BCG case, testing exactly the same skills, with two main differences: (I) it’s going to be industry focused, in your case biopharma and (II) generally easier than a classic one, in the sense that you are not expected to master the case technique as a consultant.
As for the fit, expect the classic questions (why BCG, why Vantage etc).

The case will be similar to the generalist case interview, but not as complicated and not as in depth. As part of the case, often times they will weave in questions to test your expertise still.

Based on how they described the format, it sounds like you will have a case study, which could potentially be from the industry that your role is associated with. You can check the case library on PrepLounge for some examples.
Re the personal fit, make sure that you practice the standard questions (tell me about yourself, why consulting, why us, etc.) as well as a couple of stories from the past couple of years that show you at your best.

I’d prepare for a short, structured business problem rather than a full traditional case. Given the Biopharma focus, I’d brush up on commercial topics such as market sizing, pricing, market access and interpreting data, while being ready to explain your thinking clearly.
With only two days, I’d focus on a few short practice cases and your expertise and fit stories rather than trying to learn everything.
