Second round interview with Partner, Director and Senior Manager at Deloitte

Hello,

So I had my first interview with a director and a senior manager, which was scheduled for one hour. Most of the interview was technical questions for the entry job I am applying for.

Now I have the second interview where I have to prepare a small presentation for a business case they send me a few days in advance, as well as some more detailed technical questions. The interview is also scheduled for one hour but in person. Now I am wondering what to expect and what I need to do to ace the interview.

Hi there,

Congrats on passing the first round!

Based on your description, it sounds like the next round is a 'written case'. Here you will be provided with a prompt/package beforehand, you'll have some time to prepare a presentation, and then you'll need to present it before the consultants who will be interviewing you.

The difference to a live case is that you have more time to prepare and thus the expectations, both on the content and the presentation side are higher. Yet, it tends to a certain extent to be a more realistic representation of how consulting work looks like.

It would also be worth reaching out to the recruiter to ask more info about the format of this round in case you still have doubts.

Best,
Cristian

hey there!

The second round at Deloitte with a Partner, Director, and Senior Manager is usually about three things in one hour: your presentation on the case they sent you, your reasoning and communication, and your technical depth for the role. They want to see whether you can take a business problem, structure it, analyze it, and explain it clearly. The presentation is the core, so keep it simple, top‑down, and focused on the key insights. They will challenge your assumptions and ask why you chose certain approaches. That’s normal.

For the technical part, expect them to go deeper than round one but still tied to the job. They want to see whether you can apply your knowledge, not recite theory. The best way to ace it is to show clear thinking, calm explanations, and a structured approach.

Congrats on getting through, that's a strong signal. For the second round, the presentation is really the centre of gravity, so put most of your prep there.

They're not just testing whether you solved the case. They're watching how you think, structure, and hold a room. So lead with your answer up front, walk them through your logic in a clear top-down way, and make sure every slide earns its place. Keep it tight. They'll respect clarity over volume.

Expect them to push back mid-presentation, sometimes hard. That's not them catching you out, it's them seeing how you handle pressure and whether you can defend a view without getting defensive.

Stay calm, acknowledge good points, and don't crumble on the ones you believe in. For the technical questions, just be honest when you're unsure rather than bluffing. Practice the presentation out loud a few times. That alone separates most candidates. You've got this.
