Regarding Career Track

Hello,

I have just completed my MBA and have been offered a Product Analyst role at McK. I wanted to know the career track in the next 10-15 years. Please help. Thank you.

Hey there, congratulations on getting the offer!

First of all, I am a little surprised because I would have expected at least Senior Analyst role at MBA level (not to diminish your accomplishment in any way - just seems a little odd).

The role itself has some touchpoints with traditional generalist consulting but is otherwise quite specialist in the realm of R&D. If this is what you're looking for, great!

As far a career track, this entirely depends on you. McKinsey opens many doors and the questions is rather where do you want to be in 5 years time (10-15 years seems a bit much - a lot can happen during this time).

You may well want to stay in McKinsey but again, you're not on the generalist consulting track, which is important to bear in mind (I typically expect any MBA to be more inclined towards generalist roles).

Not sure if this is helpful at all - maybe you could specify your question a bit more?

Hello, Thank you for your answer. Appreciate it.

I guess being fresher and with a direct MBA degree after undergraduate might be one factor.

The role is provided under M&S Team for a Product Analyst.

I wanted to know where a career would take in the case of hierarchy .Also, what would be the growth opportunities for this role down the line in Mckinsey itself?

Thank you for your help again.

Well, before you accept the offer, if you are having cold feet or not sure what the role is, this is the perfect time to reach out to some of those people and network. You will better understand the role, and will not only be ready to hit the ground running if you take the offer, and you will also already know a couple of people when you get there.

Top US BCG / MBB Coach - 5,000 sessions |Tech, Platinion, Big 4 | 9/9 personal interviews passed | 95% candidate success

Hi there,

Just to add to the discussion: I highly recommend you network and get on the phone with people familiar with this role/topic!

When I interned at BCG I reached out to people across DV, Tech, Platinion, etc. in order to understand roles of interest better and see what the career track would look like.

Pick up the phone and talk to people :)
