Quantam black by Mckinsey

Hello everyone,

Recently, I was networking and a senior guy from Quantum black told me that he can refer me for the position I am planning to apply for.

I am not sure how much weight does it hold.

Can anybody shed some light on this one?

Edited - He has submitted my CV and asked me to keep an eye on the email from the recruiting team. After 15 minutes of his email I got a link in which I have to complete the online application. The link is valid for 30 days. I do not think this weight much in the process.

I think I should network more and try to get partner referral.

Hi there,

This is a referral and it should hold weight - why are you doubting this?

Regardless, this is a moot point given you've already received the application link from the recruiting team!

To ignore that link and go an get a partner referral is kind of a bad look in my opinion.

If he's senior and has submitted the referral and you have an application link you should just move forward with this…you've done well, had good luck, etc…try not to look a gifthorse in the mouth!

Thank you for replying Ian.
He is a senior software engineer that is why I was bit hesitant. Secondly, usually the candidate does not have to apply via any link if he/she has been referred right?

Former McK interviewer, PhD who successfully transitioned from Academia, received offers from McK/BCG/Bain/LEK

As every consultant would answer …it depends ;)

If you would like to apply to QB then it certainly plays stronger in your favor.

However, if this person is connected well enough with PD department (Personal Development at McK includes recruiting as well) this should still give you an advantage (from my experience QB colleagues were treated equally to other Firm members).

Hi,

I agree with Ian's response on this - you have a link for the application already, and it would look bad if this person is senior and you try to go around them to get a partner referral for the exact same position. There is no harm in continuing to network to get to know some partners in the office and get their support as you go through the recruiting process, but you don't need another referral.

Hey there,

You will be fine. This counts as a referral. Usually, a referral is better the more senior your referrer is, however, the difference is marginal and I would just go ahead with your application now.

Cheers,

Florian

If you have got the application invite link - the best way forward would be to apply and move ahead. You have the foot in the door.
