Profitiability Cases Structure

Hi!

I am not sure if this has ever been asked in the forum before but I couldn´t find an answer for it.

I complete understand how a profitability tree is designed and how to make it fitting to a case prompt, however in some case books and online cases the structure of the case not only includes a profitibaility tree itself but also for example a market bucket or a company bucket before the profitability bucket comes and in some cases the solution is only the profitability tree itself.

I couldn´t find a reason of why it sometimes includes more buckets than just the profit tree itself and whether especially Mckinsey wants this or if it is enough to go deep into the profit tree itself without other buckets first?

I am talking about typical cases such as "how can we improve our profitability?" ect.

Thank you for your help!
