Hi,

My take on this - a Principal role is a senior one. At minimum you'd want to be practicing with someone of the same peer level or higher.

Gonna be tough to find profiles like that on this community - majority of them are in the undergrad / MBA cohort, and even the experienced hires are mostly Manager level and below.

My suggestion:

  1. Utilize your existing network (friends of friends etc) that are senior level in consulting for prep
  2. Network to make additional contacts who can potentially help you prep
  3. Get a coach if #1 and #2 don't turn out

Hi Bruno,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, I would advise you to spend at least parts preparing with peers of any seniority. Contrary to what other coaches have said, you will still have to solve regular case studies, with the only difference that the expectation is higher.
  • Moreover, where your application process may slightly differ, is the personal fit part. Here, firms will probe your client leadership, how you steer a team and a conversation. I would advise you to work with an experienced coach like me on this.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi Bruno,

With very few exceptions, the majority of candidates on PrepLounge are relatively junior to do cases at your level, so your best shot here is to look for an experienced coach.

I just sent you a DM. Feel free to write back if you find it useful!

At the Associate Principal level, you should not be doing standard case prep with random peers online.

Most online case books are designed for graduates and will do you more harm than good right now. Interviewers at this seniority are not checking if you reach a formulaic answer. They are watching how you lead a room. They want to know if you can spot the commercial value in an unfamiliar business problem under pressure.

Focus on live, peer-to-peer practice with other senior professionals.
